SUICIDE WATCH

Benjamin and Shannon worked as hard as they could to bring Allen back to consciousness. "Doctor his BP is dropping." Allen could only hear their voices in the distance as they tried to revive him. And the flat line. "He's coding. I need the defibulator! Allen! Don't you die on us!" For a moment he hovered above himself and then he turned around to see Alicia standing in front of him. He smiled, but then two older men dressed in crisp white suits came to take her away from him towards a blinding white light. "Go Allen!"

"Alicia!"

He then felt a dark presence behind him and felt how he fell deeper and deeper into a black darkness enfolding him. Choking him. For a moment he was knocked out cold, but then he woke up in a what seemed like a jail cell. It was boarded up, but he could see a faint glow of light coming from the outside. Outside he could hear people screaming like they were being tortured. "Where am I? Someone let me out!"

'Am I dead? Or is this one of those dreams? Those horrible dreams that seem like they last forever. If I am alive, why? Why? If there is a God or whatever. Something. Somewhere. Why have I been abandoned by everyone and everything I've ever known? I've ever loved. Stranded. What is the lesson? What is the point? God give me a sign or I have to give up. I can't do this anymore. Please just let me die. Being alive hurts too much.'

Michelle came running down the hallway as soon as her legs could carry her and ran around the corner running into Jamie who was on his way to ER. "Dr. Saunders."

"Michelle."

"Where is my father?

"He is in ER. They are trying to revive him."

"What happened?"

"He took a bottle of sleeping pills. We don't know how many."

"Is he going to be alright?" Michelle asked with a worried look on her face before she started tearing up.

"I honestly don't know. Michelle, if your father doesn't make it..."

"No, no. Don't say he won't make it. Where is he? I need to see him."

"Maybe it's best you wait in the waiting room."

Shannon tried to revive Allen, but after several attempts, she finally gave up. "No, no, no, no, no. Allen, no!"

Benjamin looked at her alarmed. "Give it one more try Shannon."

"It's no use Benjamin. He's dead."

"Shannon!"

Benjamin attempted to resuscitate Allen one last time, and looked at him for a few seconds, hoping he would show some sign of life. The monitor suddenly gave a short beep and then another one and Allen came to gasping for breath before he fell asleep again. "We did it!"

Shannon leaned forward. "Allen. Allen, can you hear me."

Michelle was sitting in the waiting area gazing at the clock on the wall and crying when Benjamin walked up to her. "Michelle..."

"Dr. Hansen. Is he okay? Please tell me he's okay?"

"He's okay. But he almost didn't make it."

"Oh gosh. Why did he try to kill himself? Did something happen? My father never tried to take his own life."

"He's still sleeping. Maybe it's best if you come back again tomorrow." 

"I wanna see my father now."
