Jamie sat in an armchair in her living room as Gemma ushered in Tara, Dawn, Fawn, Harmony, and Freddie. As the women all made themselves comfortable, Gemma held up a small basket.
"We are having our own version of Church, ladies. That means all cell phones go in the basket until we're through so that nobody is tempted to text their old men or fathers. Obviously, whatever is said in this room, doesn't leave this room. Agreed?"
Everyone nodded and dropped their phones in the basket before Gemma pointed to Jamie. She sighed and sat forward with her elbows on her knees as she looked at each woman there before speaking.
"I know I'm new here, and some of you don't like me, but believe me, if I didn't think what I've discovered would blow back on you or the club, I wouldn't be bringing it to you."
Tara shook her head, frowning. "If there's a problem that has to do with the club, then why aren't we taking it to them?"
Dawn nodded in agreement. "Yeah, I think Tara's right. If you've fucked up or something, and the club is going to be dealing with it, take it to them, not us."
Gemma gave Dawn a dirty look and shook her head. "Look, she's an old lady, whether you like it or not, and if it's what I think it is, she hasn't done anything, but she does have a problem that needs to be sorted out. By us." She held up a hand. "I'm sure that Jamie will agree that if it becomes too much, then, of course, the guys will be told."
Jamie nodded. "I do agree with that. Let me start at the beginning, ok?" When the others nodded, she stood up and paced the floor for a few minutes before leaning against the wall by the boarded up window. "When my dad was killed, mom went downhill fast. She was already addicted to pain pills but she got worse after that. Anyway, she needed treatment and at the time, St. Thomas didn't have a program, so I took her to L.A. so she could be treated. I lived with an aunt for a while but I needed money for mom's treatment and I had no marketable skills, so... I became a stripper at a little dive club. Tips were good but in that particular club, the girls would turn tricks on the side."
Dawn spoke up quietly from between Fawn and Harmony. "So you were a prostitute?"
Jamie shook her head. "No. I didn't want to earn money that way, and I, probably naively, still felt that I belonged with your dad, so I had no interest in sleeping with anyone else." She shook her head. "You haven't met my business partner yet, but Wade was a bartender and bouncer at the club where I worked. One of his friends had a real hard on for me, came in every night, tried to get in my pants but I turned him down every time." She took a deep breath before continuing. "One night, after work, I was walking home and someone came up behind me. It was the guy from the club, talking shit about how he was going to rock my world." She laughed bitterly. "Anyway, he hit me over the head with something, and when I woke up, we were in this little apartment and he was on top of me... it went on for hours, but finally, he passed out. I remember crawling to the kitchen and finding a knife, I remember stabbing him over and over... "
Her voice broke on a sob and Dawn and Gemma jumped up to run to her side, the younger woman wrapping her arms around her as Gemma stroked her hair. Dawn leaned in and looked her in the eye. "You don't have to tell us more if you don't want to, ok?"
Jamie shook her head and wiped her eyes. "No, I need to get through that to get to now. I uh... I killed him. I woke up the next morning in a panic, covered in blood. I called Wade and he came to help me clean up and take me home. He told me to forget that it happened, that nobody would miss the guy anyway. Neither of us ever spoke about it again, but I knew that one day it would come back to bite me in the ass." She took a deep breath. "I've come a long way in ten years, and I honestly have Wade to thank for that. Mom passed away from a massive heart attack two years ago, and I got the idea to come back here and open a club, but I didn't know the first thing about business, so Wade agreed to be a silent partner."
Harmony spoke up for the first time since getting there. "Let me guess. He's not being so silent anymore."
Jamie nodded. "Yeah, you could say that. He's started dropping hints about my past and wouldn't it be terrible if anyone found out... anyway, recently I had a visit from Ernest Darby. He wants to deal drugs through the Deuce. I told him no, but this morning a rock was thrown through my window with a note saying that I had two days to agree or something bad would happen to someone Tig cares about."
Dawn shook her head and cursed under her breath. "So obviously one of us."
Jamie nodded. "It could be anyone, really, but I don't see him going after SAMCRO directly. He'd go after one of you first."
Fawn spoke up. "But what does Wade have to do with Darby?"
Jamie shrugged. "That's what I want to know. Yesterday, Wade came to me with the idea of working strippers at the club on the weekends, and today after Freddie was done with my window, I went in to work and Wade told me that he'd heard about my little accident from some police officers." She looked around the room before continuing. "The only two people who knew about what actually happened was myself and Freddie."
The women sat for a few minutes processing all the information before Tara spoke up. "We can't go after Darby. That would start a war with The Nords."
Gemma nodded then grinned. "We can scare him though, and we can damn sure take care of this Wade bitch." She looked around the room before continuing. "Ok, so who's in? I think we can take care of this shit without involving the boys."
Tara shook her head but grinned. "Yeah, I'm in. I don't like men thinking they can hold shit over women's heads."
Dawn looked at Jamie and held a hand out for her to take. "I'm in... and I'm sorry for the way that I acted."
Harmony chuckled as she and Fawn both nodded that they were in and Freddie agreed as well. "I know one thing. If I ever thought that there wasn't a woman out there for dad, I was wrong. You're as batshit crazy as he is." Everyone laughed as she threw an arm around Jamie's shoulders. "This should be fun."
