"Hey," She said casually.
"Hey," My mom shouted. "Hey. That's all you have to say."
"There's nothing else I can say."
My dad hugged her. "I don't know what to say. Why are you here? Not that I'm not glad that you are. But, why?"
"I've always been here, watching over you guys, watching over Catie. Thanks for naming her that by the way. Anyway, I was tracking some rogues through the territory. They were preying on her. She was in her first shift and they knew it somehow."
"You shifted?!" My dad asked.
"I did."
"Are you okay? Are you hurt. I am so sorry I wasn't there." My mom gasped.
"I'm okay. Thank goodness she was there."
"Let's go in and talk."
"I can't. You know I can't stay here. You know why I left."
"It's been 20 years. We haven't heard from you. Didn't know if you were alive. Can't you just stay for dinner."
"I can't. I'm sorry."
"Okay," my mom pouted.
She gave them both a hug.
She turned to me. "I'll always be here, watching. Anytime you need me."
"Okay."
"And Catie, give Jude a chance. I loved your Uncle Carter with my whole heart. I will never get to see him again. Not having your mate is the worst feeling in the world."
I nodded. With a sad smile, she took off running into the woods.

I stood in front of Bromwell academy. Things were different now. I agreed to give Jude a chance. Five months strong of dating but it feels more like 5 days. He's got a temper for sure. However, I have never felt so loved and so save. Despite his insistence for me to move in with him on his pack land, I still live with my parents. I agreed that after high school, I would. I would take my mark as Luna then as well. I still wanted to go to college. My dreams and future was still the most important thing in the world to me. He respected that. We did fight about how he treated his omegas. His instructors who were never Betas or Alphas, and my friends like Breeze and Beckett, whom I still sit with, had to be treated with more respect or it was a no go with me. He tried to explain the rank to me. But things like that didn't matter. The sooner he realized that, the quicker we got along.
"Sup nerd." Breeze said tossing her shoulder into mine playfully.
"You mean Nerd Luna." Beckett bowed in front of me.
"Shut up. Even when I am Luna, you can't call me that."
"We have to. Plus it's a respect thing."
"We would be honored to call you that. At least it's not Slutty Susie." Beckett said.
"Haha. Yeah, wouldn't want that." I laughed.
"Thanks for being my friends guys."
"Thanks for fucking some sense into our Alpha." Beckett said.
"Um, we..." I stuttered. "We haven't um..."
"You mean there has been no cherry popping happening?" Breeze asked.
"No." I said embarrassed and hit my face.
They laughed. "Virgin Luna." They called me.
"Shut up before I have you guys exiled."
That shut them up quick and we walked through the doors together.
Jude was standing at my locker. Breeze and Beckett bowed their heads and walked away with promises to see me later at lunch.
"Seeing them bow their head at you is still super weird."
"The fact that I see them as my friends is super weird." He retorted. "You're turning me into a wimp."
"You're a very sexy wimp." I said rubbing my arms up his muscles.
"Damn right I am."
We walked towards our first class. "When we get out today, do you mind if we go running together. I feel like it's time."
"You haven't let yourself change since that day with Cat, are you sure you are ready?"
"I am. And I want it to be with you."
"You sure."
"I want all my first to be with you." I smiled at him.
Jude's heart melting smile was sincere. He wanted everything for me. And he would give it to me at any costs. I found the one my soul was meant to love. I was ashamed that I even thought of rejecting him.
"I love you Catie."
"Ditto." I responded.
Later that night, as I shifted into my white wolf, I realized Cat was right. It wasn't at all as painful as before. Jude was great and coaxed me through the entire thing, from behind a tree. I was still too embarrassed for him to see me naked and since I didn't want to rip my clothing, I undressed and made him wait behind a tree.
He, however, was not shy at all. He came out baring things I had only seen in Sex Education class. I laughed and he smiled that dimpled smile as I watched him morph into a huge grey wolf. My father said that his wolf was grey. He explained to me his past with his mom. And mama explained to me my past, my grandparents, and about Uncle Carter, Aunt Joya, and Aunt Cat. I was comforted by the color grey. My father said it made him think of ghosts from the past. But, their pasts all mingled together made my future. And I liked that.
Jude's wolf was enormous, and scary. If I didn't see him change, I might would've coward at his full height. He nudged me as if to tell me everything would be okay. He started running. I followed.
I was free. The wind blowing through my fur, the moon following me like a shadow, it all comforted me. I picked up the pace as we ran through the forest. And off in the distance, I seen a dark brown wolf standing on a hill looking a little sad, and a little proud. I knew she had to live pain in her life, she had to endure things that only nightmares have seen. But the gods did that for her, so that I could be here today. My parents would've never met/married if it wasn't for her life and my uncle's death. She lived her past so I could live my future. I would do everything I could to make her proud.
She lived her story, so that I could have mine.
"I'll always be with you." She said.
And she always was.
