namjoon and jeongguk sat on the same bench, a space between them that could fit another person. namjoon felt so bad, he invited jeongguk here, but he didn't know what to say. all the words he had practiced just flushed from his brain.
he was tongue tied, and running out of time. jeongguk had been quietly starring at the sky, stealing glances at namjoon every now and then. it had been about twenty minutes, the unsettling silence was killing the pair.
eventually, jeongguk cracked. he couldn't anymore, he couldn't be sad or mad or anything. he missed namjoon, he missed his crush, his best friend. so, he threw his jealousy aside and turned towards namjoon, extending his arms and wrapping them around the other boy.
namjoon tensed at first, but gradually melted into jeongguk's embrace. they sat their for a moment, and namjoon didn't know he was crying until jeongguk quietly shh'd him, rubbing his arm soothingly. "s-so sorry.. sorry for br-bring you out here for noth-nothing a-and hurting you.."
jeongguk shook his head, a sympathetic smile on his lips. "joonie," the nickname felt so sweet coming off his tongue, and sounded even better to namjoon, "i had no right to be mad. you- you're not.. mine. we aren't dating, we're friends.."
with each word, jeongguk sank, more and more. he wished namjoon was his, he wished the he was his boyfriend. but, who was he to expect namjoon to fall for him.
namjoon contemplated, whether or not to tell jeongguk about how he truly felt. about all the nights he stayed up thinking about the boy, how many times he's ranted to ge and yoongi about him, about all the times he's doodled sappy poems and small drawings about the boy.
would it hurt jeongguk more? would it seem like namjoon was playing with him? namjoon just buried his head into jeongguk's warmth, quietly sniffling.
"i-i.. 'm sorry.. 'n, i love you.."
