The first few minutes of 6thhour were kind of awkward. We just sat there quietly.
“You know I didn’t mean for that to come out like it did,” Amanda said from her desk next to mine.
I didn’t care much though. I was angry. Really angry.
“You know what Amanda? You say crap like this all the time. So don’t even say that. I know you meant exactly what you said. I also know you’re right.”
“You shouldn’t give up though.”
I laughed. Yeah right.
“Why shouldn’t I?” I asked, just a little annoyed that she seemed to be trying to be nicer all of a sudden, like I would just forget what she said earlier.
“I don’t know. You just shouldn’t. If it doesn’t work out then it doesn’t work out, but you won’t know that if you don’t keep trying.”
Typical Amanda… she never really made sense. She always changed what she was saying. Seriously just pick a side already.
For the rest of the hour we stopped talking to each other, and I went online to message Kyle. I wanted him to know that there wasn’t anything wrong, and that I felt kind of bad for just suddenly leaving Saturday night. I also wanted to tell him that I missed him and that we should do something this weekend.
When I got home I went upstairs to my room. My mom wasn’t home so I assumed she went to the store. I sat down on my bed and picked up a book that was on the floor. I didn’t remember it being there before. It had something to do with seeing people that weren’t really there. Definitely not one of the books I got. Maybe my mom noticed how I’ve been acting and she thinks I’ve lost it or something and now I’m just seeing things. I sure hoped that wasn’t the case.
I put the book down and decided I wasn’t really in the mood to read right now. What I really wanted to do was get online and see if Kyle answered me back yet.
He didn’t, and I hoped he would soon because I was kind of bored and wanted to talk to him. Instead I went downstairs to the kitchen searching for something to eat. I was walking back up the stairs when I heard something fall in the kitchen. Curious, I went to see what it was.
When I got there I found a basket one the floor, you know, one of those ones people sometimes put fruit in. I looked over to the spot on the counter where it used to be and wondered how it got all the way over to where it was now.
Picking it up I looked around the kitchen to see it Coda was anywhere around, but he wasn’t. I put it back on the counter and went back upstairs to my room. Kyle still hadn’t answered me back, so I decided to call him.
“Hello?” he answered sounding somewhat tired.
“Hey, it’s Stacie. I need to talk to you, but you haven’t answered me back. I was wondering if you got my message.”
He suddenly sounded more awake.
“I haven’t been on the computer yet why? Is something wrong?”
“No I’m fine… but I wanted you to know that I felt bad for suddenly leaving Saturday night. Something came up.”
“Something bad? A family thing? Is everyone okay?”
“Yeah, it has nothing to do with that, my family is fine. I was just having a hard time with something and I needed to be at home.”
“Okay.”
“I’m glad you understand, I’ll talk to you later. Right now I think my mom’s home. Bye!”
“Bye!”
I walked down stairs to help my mom put away the groceries she bought. She stopped and stared at the basket on the counter and I wondered if I was wrong about where it was. Did she know it was moved?
“I had… a note pad and a pen in that basket. Didn’t I?” she asked, pointing at the basket.
Crap! She was right. I looked around the floor to see if I could find them, but they weren’t there. What, did this mean whatever was following me was a thief now? That’s just what I needed. Soon it was going to look like I was stealing things if it kept that up.
She ignored it and kept putting away groceries while I went up to my room. When I got there the note pad and pen were sitting on my bed. What? How? I sat down on my bed and picked the note pad up. There wasn’t anything written on it, why would it be there? I was going to bring it back to my mom, but then she would wonder how it got in my room. I was also guessing she wouldn’t believe me if I told her I honestly didn’t know. I stick it in a drawer of my dresser and pretended I hadn’t seen it.

When I got to school the next day I walked down to the end of the hallway where the band room was so I could go sit between the two sets of doors like I normally did after 3rd hour. It was weird being down here this early in the morning, but I really needed somewhere to think.
While I was sitting down there thinking, I took my picture of her and looked at it. Could this all really have to do with her?
“What do you think?”
I looked up and nearly screamed when I saw her standing in front of me. Why, how, or when she got there… I didn’t know.
“You’re here early… how did I not here you come in here? And what do you mean what do I think?”
“I’m asking you if you really think all of the strange things that happen to you somehow have to do with me. And yes, I am here early… I have to get help from Mrs. H. before 1st hour.”
I was starting to get a little freaked out now.
“How could you know I was thinking that?” I asked. “I didn’t even say it out loud.”
“I know you better than you think Stacie. It’s almost as if I can read you mind, but I should get going, and you should get to class. Bell’s going to ring soon.”
She walked back into the school and I stood up wondering what the hell had just happened. Just then... the bell rang.
