I settled on the bed and hugged my legs to my chest, before burying my face into my legs and crying. I didn't pay attention or care about the approaching footsteps coming down the stairs. I couldn't tell who it was just by the footsteps.

"Elain, what is wrong?" Said a male voice and as I raised my head, I realized it was Hannibal. He sat on the bed beside me, and I felt the bed shift. "Why me..." I muttered as I looked into the reflection. My antlers twisting on my head. "You will be struggling with that question for your entire life. You have to accept that this is unchangeable, and you can only go forward." He said as he wrapped an arm around my shoulders.

"Is it, unchangeable?" I asked as I ran a finger along the antlers. He looked at me confused. "I mean, to surgically remove them from my head." He seemed to understand where I was going. He shook his head. "They have grown so much that your body would regrow them and regrow them." He said. "And if we removed them by the roots, it would cause so much pain, you could die from it." He said. I thought about that for a moment as I rocked back and forth. "Maybe that wouldn't be so bad." I said.

"Hey, don't talk like that. The fact you are alive, is a miracle." He said. "Come, we are going." He said as he offered his arm. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and took his arm and walked up. At the top of the stairs he turned to dry my eyes with his thumb. "All better now?" He asked, and I nodded.

AN//: I know this is really short but I thought it worked better as a short sweet moment without other things distracting from it.
