Background: every 1000 years, the gods are reincarnated as humans
Word Count: 1339——
*Your POV*Gods often hid themselves amongst humans. It was not that they were afraid of being seen, it was that they wanted to live mortal life just as everyone else, and not be recognized.
When a god lives on Earth in human form, it is not hard to tell that they are different. They radiate different energy, so it almost feels unreal to be around them. Everything looks a bit clearer, not so noticeable that you tell instantly. It is just visible enough that you feel more comfortable around them. They also produce a feeling when you look them in the eyes. It starts in the back of your chest, and gradually flows throughout your body; filling it with a glowing warmth.
Everything seemed to follow him. Plants curled around his feet, and the water appeared to always be flowing towards him. The wind, of course, following him every step he took.
Each god had their own talent. The god of nature could be found in many environmental protests, or just walking around the forests, taking in the beauty of every creature. The god of deception could be found amongst the hardened souls of gamblers, living in an area thriving off of people wasting away to nothing.
But Kim Woojin was different. He lived in an almost secluded town, with very little trouble. People warned me not to disturb him when I moved in, they claimed his heart was chilled through the many years of isolation. I, of course, decided to ignore the advice of the locals, and knock on his door to introduce myself. I was at the doorstep before I heard anything. As soon as I lifted my fist to knock against the dark oak door, I heard the soft strumming of a guitar from inside the house. I let my hand fall to my side, and pressed up closer to the door, trying to get a better listen.
The music was beautiful. It was unlike anything I had ever heard before, and I felt myself falling into a trance as I continued to listen to his voice. He had the kind of voice that you could sit and listen to all day without getting bored. I closed my eyes, trying to heighten my other senses, so I could hear his singing more clearly.
I began to hear footsteps, one after the other, approaching the door. I removed myself from being pressed up against the wood, and took a few steps back, trying to look like I had not been eavesdropping on his practicing.
The door swung open violently to reveal and broad-chested, somewhat short, but still intimidating male. He was standing very confidently with the posture of a CEO of a Fortune 500 company. My eyes immediately connected with his dyed blond hair, a surprisingly good look for him. His eyes raked over my body, before meeting my gaze with intensity.
"What are you doing here," He asked boldly, his voice even, yet somewhat melodic. There was a very musical sense about the way he did everything. The way he presented himself could be a symphony on its own, from the way he stood, to the way he talked. Everything was slightly ethereal about him.
"I...I am new here..." I managed to stutter out, forcing myself to maintain eye contact with the beautiful stranger. He simply nodded in response, letting a soft hum pass through his lips.
"I know people don't typically visit you..." I started, concentrating now on the ground between my feet and his. He scoffed. I continued, "but I thought I would introduce myself. I mean, I understand not liking company, but I just wanted you to know who your new neighbor was," I finally finished, letting out a breath I did not know I was holding. He cracked a small smile, but quickly replaced it with a neutral face.
"I hate company. But, I do need help with something," he said, gesturing for me to come inside. I cautiously entered his home, examining my surroundings. The place definitely reflected him. Simplistic in nature, but there was slightly magical undertones. It felt like being transported to a different world, where everything was different, but appeared to be the same. Instruments from around the world lined the walls, making the whole place feel almost like a museum. He ushered me on to the back porch.
"Do you know anything about music?" He asked once I finally stepped outside, marveling at the magnificent view into the mountains. I nodded slowly.
"Not much," I replied honestly. Whoever this guy was, he definitely knew more about it than I did. He smiled.
"I can teach you a few things if you promise me something,"
"S..sure, what do you need?" I stuttered once again, letting my nerves get to me. He had a powerful smile. It made my heart flutter, making me to feel like I was back in my school days, crushing on the upperclassmen.
"I need you to live here with me." He said, as if it was a casual request.
I felt my jaw drop. I barely knew him, how could he ask me to live with him? He must be crazy. I wanted to bolt, but my legs stayed planted firmly to the ground. Perhaps I should hear him out first.
"W-what?" I managed to squeak out, still visibly shocked from such a sudden question.
"Sorry, let me explain," he started again, using his hands to gesture that I should wipe the previous statement from my memory. "My...associates and I are only allowed to be here if we are intermingling with others. So I need you to live here with me, only for a few days, so that it looks like I have been doing what was asked of me." He finally explains.
A look of confusion takes hold of my features. What does he mean associates? Does he have some sort of weird landlord?
"I promise I have plenty of space. And we don't even have to talk, you can have one side of the house and I will have another. Ok?" He almost begged.
I felt myself nodding, which was strange because I really did not want to move in with him, even if it was for only a couple of days. He flashed me yet another smile, making a small flame ignite in my heart, spreading warmth through all of my body.
"Sure...but I do have one question. Why do you have so many instruments?"
"Oh, that's an easy question," he chuckled lightly before continuing, "I'm the god of music, and once every thousand years we are allowed to visit earth for the length of one mortal life. I'm glad I chose this year to do it. I have never met anyone quite like you," he flashed me any other smile. I felt the hot blush creep into my face.
"At least I know you are qualified to give me the music lessons you offered," I said, giggling softly. He nodded.
"Whenever you want to start, just let me know," he said before plopping down on the couch and picking up his guitar.
I think I am going to like living here
