Team Troubles

"Great," Zoe groans. "Now we just lost Erica. Thanks a lot Ben."

I don't say anything. I was too embarrassed to even look up as we walked.

We had started following Erica right after she ran away. Eventually, we got so far behind that we couldn't see her anymore. We didn't see any sign of her as we ran. We finally slowed to a walking pace. We didn't run very far.

I was angry, furious even. The whole reason we were on this mission was to find my mom and bring her back safely. Even so, it was wrong of me to shove Erica like that. Even though she is the "Ice Queen", as Zoe usually puts it, I knew she was capable of feeling emotions. She had even let her guard down on me a few times and showed me that she wasn't all that different. Yet, I had still chosen to yell at her. I wish I could just rewind time and stop myself before it even happened.

"I think Ben had a right to act up like that," Mike said, bringing me back to reality.

"He choked you," Murray points out.

"True, but I would've choked him if he did something like that," Mike answers. "Ben is really close to his mom. Once, I tried to ask her a question while she was playing with Ben, and he threw a fit."

"We were six!" I exclaim as I feel my face burn up.

"It doesn't matter," Mike smiled. "All I'm saying is that Ben's mom means a lot to him, so I'm not really mad that Ben choked me."

"Erica sure seemed to be upset that Ben shoved her like that," Zoe growled.

"How was he supposed to know Erica was going to react like that?" Murray asks, trying to defend me.

"No, Zoe's right," I mumble. "This is all my fault. It's my fault Erica ran away. If anyone has to fix this, it's me."

"Look, we just have to find Erica," Zoe tells me. "When we find her, you can apologize to her. I'm pretty sure she'll come to her senses. She doesn't want to fail any mission, and if the CIA finds out we split up like this, we might get black marks."

I nod.

"Yeah, I guess," I sigh. "I just hope that this mission will end out okay."

As I said that, I knew that this will be the hardest mission ever. It would even be harder than Operation Pungent Muskrat, especially if we didn't get along. What I didn't know was that even when we did find Erica, we would have to test our team work even more than we already have and nearly lose our lives while fighting SPYDER.
