"I can't believe it." I began. I already had tears running down my face.

"I have been looking for her for a long time, I finally found her, and she throws me out like trash."

Clementine stops in her tracks, turns around and kisses me on the forehead. "It's not your fault, (y/n)," she looks at AJ and looks back at me, "it's not your fault that she's rotten and evil. That was not your sister. Nothing close to it. It must have been the apocalypse that changed her. It changes everyone." she finishes, looking off into space. I frown at her, trying to figure out what's got her worked up.

"Anyway, we have bigger fish to fry."

"Like what?" AJ questions, turning towards Clem.

"Like finding our friends. Malinda did something to them I could feel it."  We were isolated in the woods, maybe at least a mile away from the gates of Winston. The temperature dropped and Clementine wraps her arms around AJ's shoulders, shuttering. I had Sophia in my arms. I squint at the the walkie talkie Clementine had in her hand and I perk up.
"Try contacting Louis again. Maybe the reception is better." Clementine held up the walkie talkie to her lips and paused before pressing the button. She looks at me with cloudy eyes and then presses the button.
"Louis? This is Clementine. Can you tell us where you are? Over."
No answer.
"Hello? Earth to Louis?"
Still no answer.
Clementine pulls the walkie talkie away and looks into my eyes, tears forming in her eyes. She was about to cry until we heard the walkie talkie make a screeching noise and then a voice over it.
"Clementine?"
My eyes light up as my gaze shifted to the walkie talkie and then to Clementine. She quickly pulls the walkie talkie to her lips and opens her mouth without hesitation.
"Louis?! Oh my gosh, you're okay! Where are you? Is Violet and the others with you? What's going on? Over."
It took Louis a second to respond. "I have Violet but I don't know where the others are. We are in the fifth house down Bakers St. in Winston. It's heavily guarded though so make sure you have your pass. I'll explain everything to you later. Over."
Clementine rolled her eyes. "We have to go back there?" I nod. We begin our walk back to the gates of Winston.

"Do you think they'll let us back in after we left?" I ask her.
"I don't know, that's what I'm worried about."
We walked closer to the gates until a gunshot is heard next to us.
"HALT! Come no further."
"Please, we forgot something that belonged to one of our kids. May we please come back in?" Clementine cries.
"Are any of you bitten?"
"No, we wouldn't be coming back if one of us was infected."
"How could we believe you?"
"We're trying to kill off the walkers and protect our species, right? Why would we try to kill others?"
Then there was silence.
"Malinda says you cannot come in."
"That's not fair! I'm her sister, family is still family!"
"I don't care for you, (Y/n)."
"But what about the kids, Malinda?! Remember how you were concerned for Sophia's health? Now you are going to let her suffer out here?! What if she dies? That would be on you, Mal."
"Don't call me Mal...just...just don't."
I could feel her voice start to gravel and break.
"Please, Malinda. Have a change of heart. Think about the kids." Clementine spoke up.
Malinda was silent for a few seconds.
"No is my final answer. Leave the premises now or deal with the consequences."
"Why are you being so difficult, Malinda?!"
"We'll give you to the count of three to leave before we shoot all of you."
"Please, this is inhumane!"
"One..."
"Think about the kids!"
"Two..."
"I love you, Malinda!"
Silence.
I felt pressure stand on my shoulders, the atmosphere got heavy.
I have never said "I love you" to Malinda. I bet she is thinking it through her head, finally glad to hear it come from me.
"What did you say?" she finally questioned after a long moment of silence.
"I love you, Malinda. I really do. Look, I didn't mean what I said back there before we left, I...I was just confused on why you would do this. Why are you hurting my friends?"
Silence again.
"Come inside, we'll discuss it."
The gates finally open and we walk through them. Malinda jumps off of the guard booth and walks over to us. "Let's go to the corner." she speaks up.
We head over to an alley way, on the corner Pollum Road. We hide on the side of the dumpster.
"Look, I am not the one to call the shots in Winston." she whispers, Clememtine and I looking over at eachother confused.
"I am not the one wanting to hurt any of you. I am being controlled by the district here. They're insane."
"Why is this so familiar?" Clementine questions.
Malinda gives her a puzzled look as Clementine scratches her head, her ballcap in her hand. She leans against the dumpster and makes eye contact with me.
"Wait. I was thirteen and I lived in a fortress just like this. The district there was insane too. My friend killed the main leader, shot her in the eye."
"Joan?" I questioned.
"How did you know her name?"
"I lived in the same fortress as you did. I was thirteen too. I had Sofia with me but she was just a toddler. Joan had me wrapped around her finger. She was like a grandmother to me, I-"
I pause for a moment.
"I was manipulated by a psychopath and I let her get to me. I watched as the guy shot Joan. I was devistated and angry at him, but I knew she was a bad person. I was just confused."
"We were living in the same place together and we never knew?"
"Guess not. It was a pretty large place."
"We would still have been able to cross eachother's paths there."
I turn over to Malinda.
"We might be able to free you. Can you take us to the main leader of Winston?"
Malinda nods and looks us dead in the eyes.
"Follow me."
