HIS EYES: Chapter 3

THE LOUD banging of metallic things awakened me. I was soaked with sweat and immediately took off my shirt. When I went out of my room, Neo was busy styling his hair. He was wearing the shirt Auren gave him. He might think it would help him proposing to Auren. Well, maybe. I was an aromantic, don't have any interest in love.

"Good morning, big brother! You really have to take off those sunglasses when Auren arrives. She might think that you're stupid," Neo said as soon as I sat on the sofa. I felt like going to sleep because of this comfy sofa. Neo bought it. He's the type of guy who cared a lot on furniture and other kinds of stuff while me, just being me would do.

"I believe she's not like that. If she would, I'll separate you two," I warned. He touched his chest and acted like he was shot by a gun.

"Aw, that hurts! You cruel big brother. But even if you'll separate us, our hearts are always connected to each other," he said with feeling.

"Jeez, corny Neo. Very corny. Wait. What do you call a corny Neo?"

"What?" he asked.

"Corneo!"

A moment of silence. I made a laughing sound effect to piss him but he just faked a laugh and continued styling his hair.

"You're corneo," he said. "Anyway, why don't you come with me? I'll pick up Auren by now."

I thought for a while. As long as I was wearing my sunglasses and stayed inside the car, nothing would happen. But still, I couldn't.

"Vanns Corporation texted me that they are going to deliver my night vision glasses today," I said. That was true. But after I said those words, somebody pressed the doorbell.

"Vanns Corporation delivery!" a man's voice said behind the door.
"It looks like you're coming with me," Neo said and took his car key from his room.

On our way to the City's Airport, Neo couldn't stop talking about Auren. He said he was very excited to see Auren again. She lived in a different city together with her parents and two siblings. She was an environmental advocate. I turned on my walkman then connected it to my earphone and played some My Chemical Romance songs.

When we arrived, the plane hadn't landed yet and Neo was standing outside the car. I didn't go out and just played Shape Switch, a mobile game. It was a fun and addicting game. Minutes had passed and I could see people who were carrying their bags. Neo was searching for his beloved girlfriend. Not long after, she found us. She was carrying a backpack and plastics.

"Hey, I miss you," Neo said while spreading his arms. Auren hugged him and kissed his cheeks. Her raven hair was cut up to her shoulders that made her chubby cheeks show off.

"I miss you too! I bought your favorite dark chocolate."

"Cool!"

There were talking about love kinds of stuff that I couldn't relate so I focused my attention on playing Shape Switch. After minutes of waiting, they finally decided to enter the car. Auren sat on the passenger seat while I sat at the backseat.

"Carthik, do you have sore eyes?" she asked. Neo started the engine and drove.

"He always wears his sunglasses, Auren," Neo laughed. "He's even wearing sunglasses during the evening!" Auren was shocked and tried to confirm it by looking at me.

"It's what we call fashion, lovebirds," I sarcastically said. I winked but I realized they couldn't see it. I looked like a third wheel here and it irritated me whenever they held each other's hand or saying I love you's to each other. I wasn't jealous but could they do it without me?

"Anyway, Orlstein couldn't come here because she has a job interview tomorrow," she said. "Don't be sad, Carthik. You're going to enjoy the festival even without her."

Neo drove fast without turning the third block on the way to our apartment which meant that we were going to the cemetery. I wasn't ready for this.

The cemetery was located on top of the hills. They were only a few tombs here because of the expensive rate.  Our parents' tomb was placed under the shade of the Narra tree.

We will always love you...

"Hello, uncle Pi and aunt Ethel! It's been a while since the last time I visited you. Sorry 'bout that. Work's stressing me out. Thankfully, your baby Neo's here to cheer me up," Auren said, talking to our parents' dead bodies buried under the ground.

"Hey! I'm not baby anymore!" Neo argued.

"Not baby outside but inside," I added, whispering to Auren's ear but it looked like Neo heard it too.

Suddenly, I felt that somebody was looking at us so I scanned our surrounding but saw no one. The wind blew hard, blowing away those dead leaves. Who was that? Maybe, it was only my imagination. Still, we should be careful because there might be someone who's watching us from afar.
