I HAD an unknown eye disease when I was nine years old and it could lead to death. The doctors didn't know how to cure it except for having an eye transplant. Mom and dad were finding for a donator until dad was tired. He was tired of finding something he would never get.
The doctor said that the virus that caused the diseased was spreading to my brain. Mom was frightened about it. I saw her and dad arguing about finding a donor. That time, I thought I was a burden. I was their cursed son. I wanted to stop them and just wait for me to die.
Neo was two years old at that time. The thought that he was innocent about my eyes, gave me a reason to hate him. How could he smile considering our situation? Whenever mom and dad saw him, they were smiling but when it came to me, they were crying. I hated it. I didn't like it. It was so unfair.
One day, mom said she had great news and that was about having a donor. I was so happy. We were so happy. After I recovered from the operation and went out of the hospital, I saw mom crying in the kitchen. I didn't know the reason why.

Auren's papers were taken care of by Neo and Orlstein. I wanted to help but Neo stopped me and told me some insulting words. He hadn't forgiven me yet. Would he ever forgive me? It was decided that Auren would be buried in their hometown. Auren's parents were disappointed with Neo but it didn't last tho.
It was the day when we arrived at Auren's hometown. The roads weren't busy as ours. My body was starting to adapt their warm and humid temperature from a cold one. We went straight to the cemetery and everything was already ready. Their relatives were already there as well as their parents. Asion, their father, was hugging Christina, their mother, who was crying.
"We're here," Orlstein said as soon as we were standing beside them.
"I'm very sorry," Neo apologized.
"My condolences," I said. I actually didn't know what to say. It would be awful if I said, sorry I killed your daughter accidentally.
White monoblock chairs were placed side by side under the huge tent. There were also burial flowers. Auren's coffin was carried by five men and placed it at the center. I sat at the back together with Orlstein but Neo, Asion, and Christina sat at the front.
The ceremony started. I was just listening to the priest who was talking. I didn't understand it, I wasn't religious. The last time I went to church was ten years ago, the burial of my mom.
It was time to give a message to Auren and Neo was the first one to talk. He was wearing sunglasses to cover his eye bags. He's been crying for days already. Poor, Neo.
"Auren's a loving and the best girlfriend in the world. I'm so lucky to have her in my life. Even though we're miles apart, she didn't cheat on me as others would do. I miss her hugs, voice, everything. I miss her and she knows how much I love her."
Everybody was touched by his message except for me. Maybe, I still hated him. The next person to give a message was Auren's dad. He was calming his wife before he could speak.
"Our daughter is gone," Asion said. He was sobbing. I glanced at Orlstein, she had no reaction at all but I saw her clenched her fist. "She's very respectful, obedient, beautiful, caring and thoughtful. I remember the day she told us that she would change the world for it was slowly dying because of human activities. But how could she do it if she's gone? She's our source of happiness and we don't know we're going to do now."
Asion burst into tears and his brother, Alister, calmed him down. Orlstein suddenly stood up without making anyone notice her and walked away. I secretly sneaked out and followed her.
The area was wide and there were only a few graves here. Maybe because of the price. She stopped under the shade of a tree. From here, I could see the tranquil water of the pond outside the cemetery's fence.
"Hey," I called.
"I knew you would follow," she laughed softly. Her hair wasn't tied up, so it was flying in any direction. She looked like a frustrated scientist.
"Are you okay?" I asked. She didn't answer. She closed her eyes and inhaled.
"The air's so refreshing. Nature, I love it," she said while closing her eyes. I was pissed off by her answer and grabbed her arm. I forcefully turned her to face me. Her eyebrows furrowed and it only meant one thing, she was mad of my action. I released her arm.
"What do you think would be the answer, Carthik?" she asked as if I knew the answer.
I actually knew the answer but I wanted to ask her and I thought it would make her felt comfortable.
"What happened to Auren? What was the cause of her death?" she asked desperately. I looked away before answering her question.
"Somebody was about to kill me and I used my eyes as self-defense but it was Auren whom I had eye contact. Then she got stabbed," I explained.
"Damn it! Carthik why? Of all people, why her?" she said. No, she wasn't crying. She's the type of person who rarely cries.
"It was an accident! I didn't mean it!" I almost shouted.
"Does Neo know about this?"
"No. I don't want to tell him about it."
For a moment, neither of us had said a word. I shouldn't get carried away by my emotion. I should control it.
"Do you still remember the person who stabbed her?"
"I don't know whether it's a male or a female because its face was covered with a mask except for its eyes."
Orlstein sighed in disappointment. "We'll find that person."
