corbyn besson.

--

you're a part of the, what you would call, 'popular group' in your school.

you have friends in that group, sure.

but you wouldn't call them your best friends.

a best friend is someone you share everything with.

someone you trust 100%.

someone who you would travel the world with, you feel comfortable with, you would want to do stupid and insane shit with. just live your life to the fullest with.

the group you hang out with, you don't really feel that.

you walk down the hall to the cafeteria with one of your friends, stacey.

the two of you walk into the cafeteria, finding your group at your usual table.

as you walk towards them, you pass a group of five boys.

jonah, jack, daniel, zach, and lastly, corbyn.

you see stacey roll her eyes and scoff as you two walk past them.

"what's your problem?" you ask.

"them, they're such nerds," she replies.

you roll your eyes at her.

"they're passionate about what they like," you argue.

"no, they're nerds. no wonder they only hang out with each other."

"maybe it's because everyone else in this school is like you, mean and hurtful. people don't want to hang out with people like that."

she scoffs.

"why don't you go sit with them if you supposedly like them so much," stacey says.

"i will, don't want to be with you right now."

you turn around and walk over to the five boys.

you sit down next to daniel.

they all look at you, eyes wide.

"hey," you say.

"h-hi," corbyn replies.

"are you lost or something?" jack asks, making you giggle.

"why are you sitting with us?" jonah asks quietly.

"because, i think you guys are pretty cool," you answer.

"shouldn't you be with your friends?" zach asks.

"n-not that we don't want you here," corbyn starts. "it's just, people like you don't really talk with people like us."

"i don't talk with people who are sweet, kind? funny? cute?" you argue.

corbyn blushes, looking down.

"let me tell you guys something. the people i hang out with? i'm not like them."

"then why do you hang out with them?" daniel asks.

"i guess they think i fit in with them. but they aren't really my friends. they're mean, rude, disrespectful. nobody wants friends like that. i certainly don't."

"well you can hang out with us if you'd like," zach says.

you smile.

"you five seem cool. like friends people should have."

they all smile at you.

"th-thank you," corbyn replies.

"he's nervous," daniel whispers to you.

"why?" you whisper back.

"because he likes you."
