(TW: talk of death, and the idea of dying alone, after life, medical conditions)

A cold breeze washed over my face. My eyes opened, not unwillingly but in a strange, indescribable manner. Tyler was gone, the room was gone, the strange figure was gone.

Dark rolling hills, endless across this vast land. My feet move my body to face an old, warn tree. After a second, realization hit me. It was the tree that Tyler tried to kill himself on. Quiet, still. Just barely addable was the small creaks and groans of the wood still settling from the years of standing. It's lifeless branches didn't even dare to dance in the wind.

Overcome with emotions, my body led me to the trunk of the dying tree. I lift a shaking hand. I press it to the rough bark of the body of the mighty tree. Slowly dragging my hand, feeling flesh softly ripping open. A second later I pull back, unsure of anything anymore. Barely a thing moved here.

I exhale deeply, letting the air flow from my lungs. A loud noise made my whole body tremor with fear.

I look around slowly, trying not to miss what might have made that sound. My eyes slowly stop on a figure. I strain my eyes to see any feature of the face. They were walking towards me. I wanted to run, no I needed to run, but my legs refused.

Large forehead, piercing black hair, kind but somehow unforgiving eyes. Brendon.

He smiled apologetically. He broke the silence after a long moment. "I'm sorry you had to end up here so quickly.. is Tyler okay?"

"What do you mean here?" I ask, in a harsh tone, completely ignoring his question about Tyler.

He sighed. "Here... the dead or dying live and walk here," he said simply.

"I-I can't be dead... No. No. Your lying!" I exclaim, terrified.

"There is a chance that you could get back there," he said softly.

"How?" I ask, my voice shaking slightly.

"If you are only dying, you can fight it and hope that someone finds you," he stated.

I nodded my head. I looked around the lifeless sea of hills.

"Where is everyone?" I ask suddenly.

"You only see the people you want to see, that are dead at least," he responded.

I sigh, slowly shaking my head.

"Your in shock. Do you remember anything that happened?" He asked slowly.

"I- I remember going outside after having a fight with Tyler... I went back inside but Tyler was acting strange and..." I stop myself. Those memories faded.

"When you went outside, you fell. Your leg gave out from the stress you put on it," he quietly said.

"Oh?" I ask in disbelief. "I want, no, I need to go back.. for Tyler."

"They'll find you. Tyler will worry and find you, don't worry," Brendon responded gently.

I nodded. He led me over to the tree and sat down. I slowly let my back run down the bark, joining him on the firm ground.

"Why are you here?" I ask, breaking the comfortable silence.

"Tyler's dad.. uh.. killed me," he responded with a slight delay. "He shot me and left me to die."

I started to laugh. "I'm sorry," I barely managed through my giggling fit. He just gave me a sad smile.

"It just sounds so like Tyler's dad could just about kill anyone and have no guilt," I said calming down from the fit.

Brendon just nodded, smiling. I leaned my head back and pressed it against the rough unforgiving bark of the old, dying tree waiting for my fate of life or death.

N/A: Hey, sorry for not updating for so long! I've been busy. I hope you all enjoyed this! It's slightly based off an episode in Grey's Anatomy, so, if you made that connection good for you.
