Small petels etched into the stones. Her name, beautifully engraved in extravagant letters, as if it were a beautiful thing, that her body decays eight feet below where I was standing.
"In Loving Memory."
That's all she'll be. For the rest of my time on Earth. Just a loving memory, a faint depiction of the one true friend I'd ever had.
My chest tightens and my eyes burn with anger tears.I fall to my knees, my body crushing the prickly yellow grass beneath my weight. The wind howls around me and I forget where I am.
"Why."
I cry out and my hands grab the sides of her grave stone. I rest them there and I let out the surpressed emotions I've held in for so long. The emotions that cause me to make such stupid and reckless decisions.
"I jumped after you. I fought. I swear I fought."
"Say something, Charlie. "
I sobbed hopelessly before my eyes flutter open and I stand slowly back up, brushing dirt off my knees. I reach deep into my side bag and pull out a small bouquet of white roses. I lay them on her grave and wipe my tear stained face.
I need to go home.
My feet find the side walk and I run my hands through my dampen hair. I take in few deep breaths before calling Calum. I found some composure and I unlocked my phone. I jab numbers in and await Calum's voice to ring out on the other line.
"Hey Mel, What's up ?"
Calums smooth voice silences the ringing out. I could hear Ashton and Micheal in the back round, fooling around with eachother.
"You busy Cal ? "
"Not too busy for you Mel, What's going on ? Where are you anyways aye?" Calum asks me and I hear him shush Micheal.
"At the graveyard on Stont Lane. "
I tell him quietly as I look back at the stones and frown. I regretted coming here, I should have just stayed home.
"Ah. I see. Well do you need a ride ? " He asks me.
"Yeah, uhm.. Let's go grab a bite to eat?"
"Sure, Nandos is close by there. We can go get some food there. " He says.
"Alright, Ill see you then, And thanks Cal. " I smile to myself trying to forget that Harry goes there with the gang after class.
"Anytime." Calum says before I hang up the phone and put it in my back pocket. I cross my arms as a lingering breeze sweeps over me. I silently hope that he gets here soon. I don't know how much longer I can be alone.
After what feels like eternity in oblivion Calums sleek, red mustang pulls up. He gets out of the car and opens my door for me. I tug a strand of my unruly waves behind my ear and I get in. I watch him as he briskly walks over to the drivers seat.I put on my seat belt once he's in.
"Thanks again Calum. " I say to him quietly.
"well, I only came cause you offered to buy me dinner. " He jokes and gives me a quick wink. I push him playfully and we laugh together for a bit.
"See thats why we're friends Cal. " I look down at my hands.
"See what ? " He asks confused and smiles at me again.
"You know how to make me laugh. " I say and laugh again.
"Well, Anything to see that pretty face" He says again.
