"I'm sorry," the nurse started. I could feel Bo tense up next to me "but your mother is in a coma like state. There's no telling when she will wake up... not to mention, visiting hours are over".
"Can I just see her really quick?" he begged.
"I'm sorry sir, but--" the nurse started.
"Look lady, this is her son. I don't care if I can't go back, but don't you think this poor boy deserves to see his mother?" I scolded.
"Lets just get out of here" Bo said, pulling my hand.
"Look," I leaned in to whisper to the nurse, " it's my fault he wasn't there when his mother had the heart attack. She probably would have been okay if it wasn't for me. I'm sorry, but is there any way you could let him in for just a minute?" The nurse just looked at me in shock. "Put yourself in our shoes" I added.
"I suppose I can make a small exception. But only for a minute". She said quietly.
"Oh thank you so much! you won't regret this!" I exclaimed as she lead Bo up to her room. As they began to walk Bo's grip on my hand only tightened.
"You're coming right?" he asked.
"Only family is allowed" I said back.
"Then we're engaged. You're coming." He pulled my arm.
"We don't look old enough to be engaged and I don't think I can. I'll be waiting right here." I promised. He slowly began to let go of his death grip on me. He caught up to the nurse followed her around the corner. I went to the waiting area and took out my phone. I texted maddie and Silvia. I told them what happened, the stuff about Charlie, about Bo, about everything.
"Did you really do that to Charlie?" Silvia asked.
"Yeah," I responded, "he wasn't happy".
"So that's why I saw him limping, bloody to his house" Maddie said.
"I guess" I said. "He's coming back, gtg". I rushed to Bo's side.
"Is she alright?" I questioned.
"Yeah. I guess" he responded flatly, emotionless.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"Lets go" he ignored me.
"Okay..." I said hesitantly. We went to his car and we just sat there, silently. He didn't start the car, he didn't say anything he just say there for a few moments.
"Dammit!" He screamed hitting the wheel. "Dammit, dammit, dammit!" He yelled. He became silent again. "She's in a coma" he murmured. "The doctor says there's a twenty percent chance that she'll make it".
"Bo I'm so sorry." I didn't know what else to say. To be honest, he was scaring me.
"It's not fair" he whispered. I could see the tears in the corner of his eye.
"Hey, hey, it's gonna be okay, I promise. It will all be okay." I pulled him into a hug. I pulled away. "Bo look at me," I lifted his chin so we were eye to eye, "you have to stop blaming yourself". Right as I said that, a tear fell from his eye. Then another, then another, then another, so I pulled him into another hug. The next thing I knew, he was breaking down in my arms. My tee shirt was drenched in tears.
"I don't know what I would do without her" he whispered.
"It's gonna be okay, but you gotta let me drive. I don't think you are fit to."
"Okay" he said. I got out and walked to the driver side as he jumped the console. I started driving to his house and we didn't say a word. I parked his car at his house and we both got out.
"Here" I said handing him the keys. "I'll see you later". I started walking away.
"Wait" he said. I turned around. "Thanks".
"It was no trouble".
"No, really. Thanks. I don't know what I would've done without you".
"Bo--"
"I love you" he blurted.
"You have to stop blurting things when you're emotionally unstable".
"But it's true."
"You know it's not. It's just something that you said because you're scared of losing me. Go inside. Take a nap. And when you wake up, see if you really meant it".
"I did, I mean, I do".
"Goodbye Bo". I walked away.
"Megan! Megan come back, please." he pleaded, but I just kept walking. I called Madelaine.
"Madelaine," I said practically in tears.
"What's wrong?" she asked, concerned.
"It's Bo" I said.
"I'm gonna kill him, what's did he do".
"Can we talk about it in person?"
"Yeah."
"Your house?"
"Sure".
"I'll be there in five" I said.
"See you soon"she said. And with that, I changed directions. Within two minutes I was at her house.
"Hey" she said.
"Hey" I murmured, puffy eyed.
"Come inside".
"Thanks".
"So what happened?" he asked.
"We got into the car and he flipped out".
"Why?"
"His mom's in a coma. There's only a twenty percent chance she'll survive".
"Oh my god, that's awful".
"Yeah. So I drove back and when I dropped him off at his house he said he loved me".
"What?"
"He said he loved me".
"And you're upset because..."
"Because he didn't mean it. I told him to think about what he said cause he didn't mean it and I left."
"Why would you do that?"
"He didn't mean it".
"He's hurting and wants you to be there".
"Are you sure? It sounded like he just didn't want to lose me".
"Go over there and support him. What would you want if you were him?"
"I would want you to be there."
"But he doesn't have a me".
"You sure?"
"Go!"
"Okay, okay, calm down." I walked out the door and back to Bo's. I ran the door bell and waited. When he finally opened the door, it looked as if he had just woken up. I kissed him, and could tell he was surprised. When he finally understood what was happening, he kissed me back. It's was shallow kisses at first, then deep, passionate kisses. When he finally pulled away to breath, he said it. "You know I meant it".
"Are you sure? Because we can forget about it if you didn't". I said.
"I meant it. Megan Flynn. I love you".
"And I you, Robert Pickering".
"Bo" he mumbled.
