Merlin was sitting on the couch when his little sister came in the door, red in the face. She slammed the door, making a loud noise that made him shush her.

"Be quiet, Helena. Guinny and Mom are still asleep," he told her. He immediately regretted this as he saw tears start to roll down her face.

He rushed over to the door, and pulled her into a hug, smoothing her hair over. He had had a lot of practice comforting his mother and sisters in recent months.

Many tears had been shed since their father's leaving, then Zar's only a few days after. Though it had only been a few months ago, it felt like it had been an eternity for the thirteen year old boy.

"Here, I'll go make you some hot chocolate, then you can tell me what's wrong," he told her, gesturing for her to sit on the couch while he made it.

It was true that it was the middle of the summer, but all of the females in the household had a comfort drink, and Helena's was hot chocolate. His mother's was chamomile tree with a drizzle of honey, and Guinny's was strawberry milk with just a drizzle of chocolate syrup. He had memorized perfectly how to make them in recent months, and in what manner to all them all down.

He returned with her hot chocolate, setting it down on the table before taking a seat next to her on the couch. Sobs had stopped escaping her lips, but her eyes were still red from crying.

"Here you go. Take a sip, then tell me what happened," he told her, and she lifted up the mug and took a long drink. Luckily, he had been able to heat up the drink with his wand to the right temperature, since MACUSA wasn't able to detect who was performing the magic. Both Zar and their mother were over seventeen, so the government just assumed that it was them practicing magic.

"I was up on the roof, watching the clouds, then Zar called down for me. I didn't even recognize his voice. It's a lot deeper now than before. So, I came down, and I saw it was him. Apparently, Mom told him to take me school shopping. She's already forgiven him, but I just can't yet. He can't just blame Dad leaving on Mom, and then be welcomed back so easily. That can't be how it works," she took another sip.

"I can't forgive him either." That's what Helena needed, someone to agree with her. "I think I can convince Mom to let me take you instead. She's set to wake up in just a bit."

"Thanks Mer," she said, sipping her hot cocoa, and watching him walk into the kitchen.

"Your welcome."
