As the rest of the students piled out of the class, the core five hanged back, waiting for the class to be empty. Alexandra and Benji were in a deep discussion about their new favourite show Lucifer. Benji had suggested her to watch the show when the second season had aired but the girl refused, saying she'd wait for it to get on Netflix.
"Wait, but where did you leave off?" he asked her in excitement.
"I'm only just finished the last episode of the second season, so no spoilers," the teenager's excitement deflated pretty quickly as the words left her mouth. "You know how much I hate spoilers."
The rest of the gang sat there quietly, listening in on the conversation the pair were very engaged in. Benji and Al were always bickering about anything, and today seemed to be about whether Chloe should end up with Dan or Lucifer. The only thing heard in the classroom were their voices. The other three didn't know what to say.
Having Alexandra forgive them was a weird feeling. They hadn't expected her to be so calm and understanding so soon. Even if it had been three months since she'd spoken to Nate, Benji, and Leo, she seemed too laid back and carefree with them that it was shocking to the boys.
Benji was surprised that she had fallen back to old habit in the last hour that they had become friends again. He wasn't complaining but the fact that the whole squad didn't get into a heated argument before the whole forgiving part was still very unexpected. Ignoring all these thoughts, the boy continued to fight back with facts as to why Chloe and Lucifer should be endgame, doing his very best not to spoil anything.
Emmeline was finishing up on her history homework that she hadn't finished the day before, Leo just stared at the loud talking pair and Nate did the same. Alexandra's laughter filled the air as Benji said some dumb joke when she noticed Benji and her were the only ones talking. Al's laughter soon faded as the two had nothing else to say to each other at the moment. And then came the silence...
It was at that moment that Alexandra realized that everything wasn't okay. Yes, she had found it in her heart to forgive them the third day of their senior year but, the group was still off. They had somewhat come to the conclusion that Alexandra wasn't going to forgive them anytime soon. It was becoming ridiculous. Leo had completely betrayed her, yes, but that didn't have to be the end of the group. They could all continue to be friends and not let awkwardness get to them. At least to Benji and Alexandra, that's how it should have been.
"Really? So, now we're going to act like strangers?" Benji spoke up, feeling the need to voice his thoughts. He knew if he didn't speak, the rest of the group would continue to stay in this horribly deafening silence.
Emmeline was the first to look up, meeting the boy's warm gaze with her own. Her mouth closed just as fast as it had opened, not really knowing what to say. The boy had always had this effect on her. He dropped her gaze and met Leo's, seeing as he was at a loss of words as well.
"It doesn't have to be weird unless you make it weird," Alexandra said, siding with Benji on this. The dark-haired boy had hurt her but she was willing to look past it in order to get her life back, more specifically, her friends back. "I don't want to dwell on the past any longer."
Alexandra then turned to look and Leonardo who had been searching her eyes for any hesitance. Forgiving was a huge step considering the fact he had stooped so low as to lie to the girl he loves most and use her past against her. None of it made sense to him. How could you love someone so much yet hurt them so badly? Most of the events of that night were a blur to him, too drunk and high to remember.
