"All right! No homework for break! Enjoy it and spend every second of it." Ms. Chesterfield said, as all of us packs everything and walk out of the room, not feeling her presence. Terence looks at me and I glance over him. He seems to look worried. I give him my 'what's wrong?' face but he looks away. Shrugging, I do the same.
I swing my bag over my shoulder and turn around to see Chris leaning against the door frame, wearing his Black Veil Brides shirt underneath his red checkered shirt with black skinny jeans, and of course, a smirk on his face. My mouth slowly rises as a smile is about to form and I run up to him.
"Oh my God, what are you doing here?" I say, letting go and placing my hands on his shoulders.
"The hospital released me." He replies, smiling down at me.
"Thank goodness!" I say, enthusiastically.
"Carrie," Someone says behind me. I turn around and see Terence, his face more tense than when I saw him earlier. "Can I talk with you for a sec?"
My smile fades. "Sure." I reply, feeling concerned than before. Please tell me this has nothing to do with Chris. I don't want this relationship to go down the drain.
"What's so urgent?" I ask, once we're out of earshot from Chris. We face each other and his hands are on my shoulders. He takes a deep breath..
"I saw Chris cheating on you." He says, right on the point. I feel my heart sink to my stomach and my eyes are slowly becoming teary. No, Chris wouldn't do that, would he? He's the most decent guy I've ever met! I mean, it's technically been a month now. I haven't really counted.
Terence studies my expression.
"A few days ago, I saw him at a store, hugging a girl who had a bunch of piercings on her face." He adds on.
Well, it's just a hug, right? A friendly hug! She was just a friend, right?
"And then he kissed her cheek before he left the store."
That's fine! I mean, it's just a kiss on the cheek! No harm! This is totally fine. He's not cheating on me. Pfft, who said he was cheating on me?
Well, duh, Terence just did.
Hello, subconscious...
"Everything okay?" Chris's voice snaps me out of my trance and I jump.
"Yeah, everything's great!" I exclaim, a tear rolling down my eyes. Shit.
"Are you sure?"
"Yes! Peachy! Everything peachy!" I wipe the tear away. I can't stand looking at him. He just looks too innocent to be that type of person.
"I'll bring you home." Chris says. I can hear that he sounds worried. He puts his arms around my waist and I look back at Terence. He gives me the look saying, "Watch out!"
Yeah, he's totally cheating on you. He never treated you like this; picking you up from school; bringing you home; yada, yada, yada.
Subconscious, you're not helping!
All I'm saying is the truth.
I swear, I could slap you right now!
How can you? I'm basically you.
Just... Just... Shut up, okay?
Can't handle the fact that I'm smarter?
"Carrie!" Chris snaps me out. "Are you sure you're okay?" We have reached his car and he opens the passenger door for me.
