Once Brad and I enter the school, everyone starts staring and whispering to their friends beside them. Of course, how can they not? An emo girl walking beside a jock is a weird sight. Because, one, wearing black with mascara. And, two, they do not go together.
We walk to my locker and I get the things that I need and don't need for the meantime.
I can see Brad's friends coming to our way and some of them were laughing.
"Yo, Brad, coach says he wants to talk to us about somethin'." One of his friends says.
"Yeah, sure, in a minute." Brad says. "Sorry, Carrie, but I have to go." He says to me
"It's fine." I say to him.
He leans in and kisses me. "See ya." Then him and his group of friends left.
I close my locker and turn around to see Olivia and her gang behind me.
"Don't you hate it when guys do that?" She asks.
"I don't mind." I reply.
"Well, you should. 'Cause sooner or later, your heart will be broken."
"What are you talking about?"
"You'll see." Olivia and her friends strides along the hallway.
I'm puzzled with questions about what Olivia said. Although, it could just be a lie. But this puzzling feeling inside me won't break free. Is Brad cheating on me? There's only one way to find out.
The bell rings for class and I quickly go to my first period.
While I'm in class, nobody notice that I'm being a bit rushed; even the teacher didn't know. How can they? I'm just glancing at the clock and tapping my fingers on my desk. I want to talk with Brad and know what's going on. I look at the wall clock again. C'mon! I wish I was a witch so that I can speed time.
tick, tock, tick, tock, tick, tock.
I'm getting frustrated on how slow time can be when you're not having fun. I sigh and rest my head on the palm of my hand. My eyes feel tired and just when I'm about to drift to sleep, Mrs. Freewood smacks her hand on my desk, making me sit straight up.
"DE-TEN-TION!!!" She yelled, cutting the word in syllables. I look around the classroom and see that some students are holding their laughter. No need to, it's bad to hold it in.
Mrs. Freewood returns to the front and continues her teaching again but all I can hear is "Blah, blah, blah, blah. . ."
Someone behind me taps my shoulder and give me a folded piece of paper.
Boo, boo. You get detention. Well, I hope you don't have a date with Brad. If you do, Olivia and I will grab him back.
At the bottom is a signature and I try to read it. I finally make out what it says:
Patricia >:)
Whatever. I fold the note and put it in one of my books. Finally, the bell rings and I pack my things with hurry and quickly head for Brad's classroom.
When I reach the classroom, I saw Brad talking with a girl at the corner of the classroom. I sneakily go to them and cleared my throat.
"Carrie, hi," Brad says, noticing that I was there. "This is. . . Um. . . Valerie. . ."
"Hi." I politely smile at her then grabbing Brad's arm that feels like I'm holding Superman's arm. I drag him out of the classroom and let go.
"Wow, you have pretty strong hands." He compliments but I ignore him.
"We need to talk." I say to him sternly.
"If this is about me talking to the girl--"
"It's not about that."
"Then what?"
"When you were with your friends going to your coach, Olivia came up to me and said that you will break my heart." I inform him.
"Olivia is just an ex." He replies.
"I know, but I need to know what you were actually doing."
He takes a deep breath and looks around.
"We and coach were just talking about what we're going to do on the next game."
"And when will that be?"
"I don't know. But he will tell us when."
I look away from him and he put his hand on my cheek making me look at him.
"Do you believe me?"
"Of course. If you say you were talking, you were talking."
"Next time, don't be fooled by Olivia, okay?"
"Okay."
"Look, we have practice today, so I'll talk with you later."
I nod and cross my arms. He walks away; I turned my back and saw Olivia and her gang again. Olivia is chewing gum and putting one arm on her waist.
"Don't believe him." She says to me. She blows a bubble and it pops.
"Tell me why."
"Because I was once with him."
"Good point."
"Anyway, we can spy him for you."
"You would actually do that for me?"
"Yeah. You're just another chew toy he can chew on, and I don't want to see other girls being one with that jerk."
"Okay. . . But give me proof and text me."
"Of course."
They walk away and I'm surprised that Olivia would want to help me. After all that I've done. After being a problem to her, I still can't see why she wants to help me. I slip the thought away and I walk to the cafeteria and that's when I see Brad with Valerie again.
