" D o  you really have to go?" Evan's voice pulls me in all different directions

" D o  you really have to go?" Evan's voice pulls me in all different directions. It's whiny, but she's also being genuine. So I ignore it and start sorting through my things and tossing them into trash bags. I wasn't given the luxury of boxes before Casey, well, threw her temper tantrum.

"Yes," I sigh through my teeth. "I really have to go."

"Like, now?" It's been a while since Evan's pouted. To be honest, it's kind of cute. But also really annoying.

I shake my head, throwing open the closet door making sure it's absolutely clear of any and every one of my belongings. Much to my relief, it's empty besides a few boxes I never got around to opening. I'm low-key grateful I never fully unpacked whenever I first moved up here. I guess in the back of my mind I knew this living situation wasn't a full proof solution. Casey had to come first.

Somewhere in side of her, I think Evan knew that too which is why, I suppose, she was sound of mind enough to snag the tiny house's number when she returned to Sushi Sake after her "smoke break". Apparently, she agreed to the proposal before realizing what had happened then stormed off to find me. I'm still not sure how Casey's dealing with everything.

"That makes three bags." I grumble under my breath slinging the last one off to the side. I check my wrist for the time and frown. "It's getting kind of late, do you think the unit's still available?" Evan quirks her brows and looks me over as if to say, 'bitch, please.' I chuckle and shake the curls out of my head. "Right, sorry. It's only been a couple of hours since we last spoke."

"He said it's an unfinished unit." She reminds me strolling over to my stripped bed. "You might not even be able to set anything up yet."

"It's a good thing it's the weekend." I fake another laugh, Evan doesn't buy it. "I have a security net I can dip into. I have a couple grand I can use to remodel if I have to."

Evan tosses her head from side to side, weighing over it. I can tell she doesn't like the idea of me using my savings, but I don't have much of a choice. If she's really following through with this engagement, I can't live here.

"He said he'd lower my rent to $685 a month since I'll have to do all of the fixing upings myself." I continue. "So that's good, I'll be able to build my savings back up quickly."

Evan lowers herself onto my bed and slowly drinks in the blank walls. Her eyes water and I realize she'd stopped listening to me mid-sentence. "We had fun, didn't we?"

Insecurity really isn't flattering on anyone, but watching it cover my best friend is repulsive. I take my time arranging the boxes and bags before turning back to her, exhaling through my nose as I attempt to meet her gaze. "I'll be less than ten minutes away," it's hard to be brave in the middle of this much uncertainty but I'm trying, "you can come over any time."
