Malissa can't stand fighting. No matter who it is. She gets enough of it at home. That's why she and Johnny were going to stay the night at the Curtis's.

Johnny let out a small sigh. Malissa threw her arm around his shoulders, pulling him close to her. She loved her little brother. She would do anything she can to protect him. But sometimes she can't always be there. That scar on his face is a permanent reminder.

They finally made it to the Curtis house. You could here music playing from the porch. They walked inside seeing that the gang was there. Steve, Soda, and Darry were in the kitchen while Two-Bit, Ponyboy and Dally were playing cards.

Johnny and Malissa plopped down on the couch and watched whatever was playing on TV.

"Ha, I won! Losers!" Two-Bit shouted and walked over to the TV and turned it to Mickey Mouse. Malissa laughed. She loved Two-Bit's crazy personality.

"Hey, Johnnycake, Mal, wanna play?" Ponyboy asked, picking up everyone's cards.

"I'll play," Johnny said. Malissa shrugged her shoulders but played anyway. They played until dinner was ready. Malissa was hungry, she didn't know about Johnny, but she hadn't eaten anything since breakfast.

She grabbed her plate and food and sat down at the table. Everyone was talking like crazy. Everyone seemed to have some sort of story to tell.

"What about you two? We were beginning to get worried about you."

"We've been at home. Our parents haven't been home, but they decided to come back today." Malissa and Johnny's parents would occasionally leave and not come back for a few days. Sometimes both of them would take off, sometimes one. But they always came back madder than before they left.

The guys just nodded. They knew how both of them got treated. And they didn't know why they got treated the way they did.

"Are you two going to stay over here tonight?" Sodapop asked. Malissa was going to nod but she say that Johnny shrugged his shoulders.

"Maybe, I might got to the lot."

"It's too cold to go to the lot. You can crash on the couch," Ponyboy said. Pony could always convince Johnny to do things. Both him and Malissa were always good at that. Johnny just nodded and mumbled an "Okay."

She was glad that he wasn't going to stay at the lot. She hated staying there. She doesn't like to leave Johnny by himself, especially after he got jumped, so she goes with him. He always tells her she can leave but she never does.

She's too protective of her little brother.
