Chapter 21: Change

*Sara's Point of View*

I stared at Mrs. Brooks, her face was solid and lacked emotion.

Jai was startled. "Beau you must've been seeing th-"

"No." she whispered. "I did it."

We were all left speechless as she stood up and called the police.

"Mum!" said Luke. "What are you doing?"

"Well they're gonna find me at some point sweetie. Might as well turn myself in. I'm proud to have killed that girl, honestly. She hurt my sons and their friends."

"No, mum. Killing isn't the answer. You'll be in prison for who knows how long." whispered Jai.

It was too late though, she called and confessed, all of us avoiding eye contact with each other. The police were on their way to arrest her. I didn't know how to feel.

I suddenly realized that Jai and Luke no longer had a place to live. Beau was leaving for college, and they didn't have a father. I burst into tears, unable to think of where they'll go.

Beau came up to me. "Sara, what's wrong?" he asked.

"I don't want you to leave me." I whispered. "I don't want Luke and Jai to go. I want everything to stay the same." I tried to lean in for a small kiss from my Beau but he leaned back.

"Not now. I love you. Skip loves you. You love us both. We're each having a final date with you and then you can decide for yourself." he murmured.

I stared at him. They weren't angry at me? He swallowed nervously, trying to hold back small tears and smiled, making a poor attempt to change the mood. "Luke and Jai will probably move in with family a couple hours away. And I'll visit, Sara. You'll always be on my mind and I won't ever love another girl like I love you."

My eyes teared up. I looked to Skip, who nodded and came over as Beau left quietly. "We'll wait for you Sara. There's nothing that I won't do to keep you happy. You are the one, Sara. I'll never stop trying. I'm not leaving Sara, I'll stay here in this messed up town with you for as long as you want."

He left the house quietly. I saw his car leave, his face was in that expression he used to make when he thought of Hailey. The one that made me sad.

I left the house. I couldn't stay to watch my best friends' mother be sent to jail.

I had an idea.

*Jai's Point of View*

Luke and Parmi were staring at each other. Oh God, what's she gonna do?

I can't believe this. Luke and I...almost predicted this would happen without knowing it. The singing...

*Flashback to Yesterday at the Hospital*

I walked into Luke's room, like before there was only one visitor at a time so Emma came in before me to talk about fucking Beau and the Mentos.

"I can't get Fix You by Coldplay out of my head. No idea why." he told me.

I thought for a second, not able to remember the song. "How does it go again?"

He rolled his eyes. "You're kidding. You know,

Oh I remember. I began to sing along to the next verse with him.
