Officer Shawn David entered his apartment and felt a strange presence. He reached for his gun, but as he went further into his apartment he saw nothing. "Paranoia at its finest." He muttered to himself as he placed his gun down.
"For a cop, you're pretty stupid." A female voice said from the dark. Officer David reached for his gun, but found it missing.
"Sit down, Officer David." The voice came again from the dark. "You must have a lot of questions." A light came on from his living room and he immediately rushed over to see who his intruder was.
"Casey Cooke?" Officer David was stunned. He never expected to see the girl again. But here she was, sitting on his brown leather chair, her legs crossed and a pissed off expression on her face.
"Please sit. We haven't much time." When Officer David didn't move, she rolled her eyes. "I've asked nicely. If I have to ask again, my friend will force you into a chair and that won't be pretty. So please sit." Casey gestured to the blue sofa that was across from her. Officer David took a seat, looking around to see if he could see that friend she talked about.
"Why are you here?"
"Because you deserve to know why I'm setting you up."
"What? Setting me up for what?"
"For the murders committed by the Fear Monger. But don't worry, you aren't going down alone."
Officer David scoffed. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Really? And just who am I being set up with?"
Casey smiled her wicked smile. "Why, your good buddy Detective Richards and his girlfriend, Elizabeth."
Officer David knew Richards from work, but they barely spoke ten words to each other. "You are in way over your head, Ms. Cooke. You should really consider this before you do anything drastic."
"Oh, I have." Casey assured him. "You see, I don't do anything half assed. I did my research. I know every possibility that could happen. And none of them end with me being arrested. Everyone is so ready to catch the Fear Monger, it doesn't matter all the questions that remain. All anyone wants is someone to blame and you three are the perfect ones to take the fall."
"Really? And why is that?"
"Because as we are speaking, the police are on are their way to Richards' and once they arrive, they're going to walk in to him and his girlfriend having sex under one of the numerous photos he has hanging up on his wall. He's created a shrine to the Fear Monger in every room in his house and Elizabeth is so in love with the true killer that she doesn't mind the graphic photos everywhere. The police will arrest them on suspicion and then they'll find the evidence I planted in his office."
"And just how did you find out where Detective Richards' lives?" Officer David asked, his tone conveying his disbelief in what Casey was saying.
"Easy. When he went to fill up his gas tank at a gas station I searched his GPS and found his home. Then my friend and I drove there and found the photos all over his house. For a detective, his security system is shit. It didn't take long to plant evidence that connected him to the murders and to you."
"And just how did you that?" Officer David was scared how confident Casey sounded, but he tried not to convey that.
"Easy. He gave me a disposable phone that only had his number saved in it. The police will find it in your apartment, along with trophies you took from the crime scene. You see, both you and Richards loved keeping personal effects that belonged to your victims. ID's, jewelry, wallets, that sort of thing. But let me answer your question, your badge number will be found along with a note that has all your victims names on it. You see, you and Richards liked taking turns on killing. Out of the seventy, you murdered twenty-five. Richards killed thirty-five. Elizabeth helped murder ten, but it was always you two who finished the job. She was just brought in to fuel her sex drive. She's into some kinky shit."
"There's no way anyone will believe you. What if we have alibis?" Casey scoffed at his stupid question.
"You have no friends, neither does Richards. You have no alibis. And like I said, no one cares about the unanswered questions. All they care about is having someone to blame."
Officer David stood up, shaking his head. "No, this can't be happening. Why are you doing this? I saved you!"
"Yes and no." Casey answered. "You certainly changed my life, but I never asked for it to be changed. And I made a promise to myself that you would die, so I need to fulfill that promise before I move on with my life."
"You're going to kill me?" Officer David asked in disbelief.
"No. You're going to kill yourself. You see, you're going to hear on the news about Richards being arrested and that's going to scare you. A man like you with a baby face like yours isn't going to last long in jail."
"And how do you know the news is going to get a hold of the story?" Casey smirked at his question.
"An anonymous source is going to let Matt Maverick know what is going to happen and I know Maverick isn't going to pass up the tip. It'll be all over the news before you know it."
Officer David couldn't believe what he was hearing. He just couldn't believe it. "The police are going to find a typed suicide letter that admits your guilt and that you couldn't face prison. Oh, and you're going to confess to the murder of my child. You see, when you found me, the three of you decided I was the perfect fall girl and when things didn't go as expected, you broke into the hospital and took my child in the hopes I'll confess. Finding me was a coincidence, but it seemed like the perfect plan. But I didn't play the part you wanted. But it didn't matter. No one was suspecting you anyway."
Casey stood up and wiped down the chair with a yellow handkerchief she pulled out of her back pocket. "Any last questions?"
"How do I kill myself?" The officer asked, choking out his words.
"Why, you hang yourself, of course. With the same rope you used to hang your victims."
The officer didn't even have a chance to fight. The Beast jumped down from the ceiling, wrapped the rope around the man's throat and threw it over the nearby ceiling fan. He hoisted the man up and they stood back to watch the officer struggle against the noose until he finally died.
Casey placed the forged suicide note under the body and she left with the Beast in tow behind her.
"So now what?" The Beast asked as they got into a car they stole.
"Now we watch our story come to a close."
