You're Still Here

Casey sat down in the rocking chair holding her sleeping child. The Beast pulled up a chair and sat beside her, looking down at their child. "He's going to have your hair." She whispered to the Beast. Baylor only had a few strands of hair, but Casey could see the black roots beginning to form.

"Perhaps. But he has your smile." The Beast stroked Baylor's cheek, causing the infant to move in his sleep. "I can't believe we're here. That we have a baby."

A tear fell down Casey's eye and the Beast quickly cleared it. "It's alright. You're safe here. I won't let anyone hurt you ever again." Casey knew the Beast meant that, but she knew it wasn't a possible promise. How could he protect her from her own thoughts? Her feelings? Nowhere was safe for her.

"I know. But that doesn't erase what happened. Claire's dad shot me because he was in so much pain. Pain we caused." Casey looked at the Beast, waiting for him to understand her feelings.

"Pain he caused." The Beast corrected her. "His daughter was impure. He sheltered her her whole life."

Casey kept her gaze on him. "So he was supposed to hurt his daughter to make her pure? Is that what you're planning to do with Baylor?" The Beast's eye turned harsh after she said that.

"No. Our son was born from two pure parents. Purity is already in his blood. He'll know pain, but not from us." Casey knew she should stop pushing him, but she couldn't.

"Then from who? That girl I passed?" She asked, referencing Elizabeth. The Beast kept quiet, not sure what to say next. "You really want to sentence your son to some sort of pain to make him pure? Then you're a worse parent than Kevin's mother."

The Beast stood up and threw the chair he was sitting in against the wall to keep from hitting Casey. Baylor started crying at the noise. Casey turned her attention back to her child and started rocking him.

"I'll leave you alone." The Beast told her before stomping out. He slammed the door behind him, making the door frame crack.

Casey let her anger slip away as she tried to calm her crying child. She didn't regret what she said. He had to hear it. No one would lay a hand on her child, even if it meant he would grow up to be impure. There were worse things to grow up to be. But this was their first fight. She had never gone against him before. What did that say about her? Was she so happy to be loved that she bended to his every will? Or was she starting to question his mission?

The Beast stormed out of the room and made his way to the third floor. He still had one impure left before he was finished. He was fuming from what Casey had said to him and he needed to take out his aggression before he blew up. Better on a dirty impure than the mother of his child.

The Beast burst into the room and let the door close behind him. He didn't go for his usual scare tactics on the remaining impure. He made her suffer a lot.

The smell of six rotting bodies filled the air, a smell that would make any sane person gag. He knew the remaining impure did, he could smell her vomit when he walked in. He kidnapped her a couple of days ago and killed off three of her friends everyday she was there. He ate them in front of her and kept the bodies in there so she could see what was her fate. Now her last day on this Earth had come.

He found her sitting on the floor in the center of the room with her dead friends surrounding her. Their blood stained her, but she paid it no mind. She was so numb that she couldn't feel anything anymore. The Beast opened the grated door that separated them and took a few steps into the room.

"Is it my turn?" She asked. He knelt down in front of her, his hungry intensifying.

"Yes." Then he lunged at her throat.

Casey laid Baylor down in his crib about an hour after he drifted off to sleep. Casey left a night light on as she turned off the rest of the lights so she could go to bed. She was surprised that it was only 11:00pm. She was exhausted. Casey laid down on the bed and fell asleep before she had time to cover herself. She awoke at 4:00am to Baylor crying. Casey fed and changed him and was in the process of burping him when someone walked in.

Casey didn't notice at first because her back was to the door and the person opened it very quietly. The person took in the scene before them before they thought to speak.

"You're still here."
