Skylar's POV
The scent that hit Skylar's nose was so mouth watering and powerful, it nearly brought her to her knees. Her vision blurred for a moment as she took a deep breath, drawing in the husky scent that now captivated her thoughts.
A low whine escaped her human mouth, and she knew she was on the edge of shifting to her true form. This scent it was so overpowering, so majestic, that it could only mean one thing.... her mate was close by.
Everything her parents had told her about meeting her mate was true. Everyone knew that their scent was the first thing you noticed. It was like a trail, leading you to them. Then once you did meet them, the markings came next, but none of that was on Skylar's mind as she started heading towards the heavenly scent.
In the back of her mind she knew she was supposed to be on the morning border patrol. She had woken up early this morning, doing her duty to her pack, but now all of that seemed to disappear. After all, she was seconds away from shifting into her wolf, but something seemed to stop her.
A dark feeling crept up her spine, making the hairs on her arms stand up. Blocking the pull that came from her mate's scent, she smelled the air once more, this time looking for more. Instantly she was met with many other scents of wolves, and none of them she recognized as her pack.
Fear and anger boiled in the pit of her stomach, and the fierce need to protect her pack overtook her need to find her mate. For now she would do her job. After all, she was the Alpha's daughter, she knew how to take care of herself.
Sending a warning signal through the pack link, Skylar took off, shifting into her wolf as she bounded trough the forest. Instantly her senses heightened, her vision becoming sharper, and the scents of the forest surrounding her. Pine trees brushed against her soft white fur as she maneuvered through the underbrush. She was so accustomed to the terrain, that she easily found the first threat as she ran along the border.
Rouges, and lots of them. Once more she contacted her father
"dad, I've found the rouges who are trespassing, there are only three, but they haven't spotted me yet."
It only took a few seconds for him to reply.
"Good, track them, but don't let them catch your scent. I've sent five omegas to help you, they are coming now. We've already sounded the alarms in the pack, everyone knows the rouges are here. We are ready, but you need to be careful."
I quickly agreed with him and cut off the pack link. These rouges were going to be sorry they ever crossed into the Shadow Creek territory. I would make sure of that.
