Skylar's POV
With my heart pounding at top speed, I fled into the tree line. My breaths fell into a fast rhythm as I stretched my long legs as far as they would go, my white paws eating up the ground. Trees and bushes flew past me in a flurry, nothing mattering except for the fear and adrenaline pumping through my body. Howls and loud barks erupted behind me, letting me know that the Rouge wolves weren't far behind.I had always been a great runner, but these wolves were like none I had ever seen.
Before long they got so close I could hear their large bodies moving in behind me. The wind blasted into my face, blowing my scent straight towards the rouges. I couldn't smell them because I was upwind, but they sure as heck could smell me, and I knew I was going to be in trouble.
Another howl split the air, and by now I would recognize that voice anywhere. It was my mate's.
Pure fear was fueling my body, but I could tell I was starting to lack speed, even if it was only just a bit. It had only been a few minutes, but I was sprinting for my life, and not even my aching muscles or burning lungs would stop me from getting home.
So putting my head down and ears back, I sped up with as much energy as I could muster, my head pounding as blood fueled my tired muscles.Suddenly I heard a growl, and the sound shook me to the core, because in that moment, I knew they were right behind me. I risked one glance over my shoulder, only to confirm my suspicions. They had found me... He had found me, and the look in his dark blue eyes told me I wasn't going anywhere.
I knew I wouldn't be able to keep up this pace, and with my mate and his scouts following close on my tail, they would eventually take me down from my exhaustion. So making a split second decision, I planted my paws into the ground, launching myself to the right as I tried weaving my way between trees.
I heard a loud growl from behind me, knowing I had tripped up a few of the wolves, but looking back over my shoulder once more, I found my mate still behind me, possibly a few feet off my right side. I don't know how he got so close or how he kept up, but I could tell he was enjoying this, and that only made me angry.
Huffing with frustration, I jerked left, narrowly escaping a large tree root poking out of the ground. Losing my footing, I fell into the near by bush, trampling over twigs and leaves as I pushed my way through, a blind haze overcoming me. I lost all sense of direction, the only thing I knew was that I had to keep moving. So even as thorns cut into my thick fur, I pushed on. Finally coming out of the dense undergrowth, I found myself stumbling onto a pathway.
Hope bloomed in my chest at the sight, but it was snatched away from me just as quickly as it had come, when a huge black wolf jumped out from the bushes right behind me.I whirled around at the crashing sound, only to be knocked to the forest floor by the large wolf. A high pitched bark left my throat as the heavy weight settled over top of me. I growled and kicked, wiggling my self away from my mates grip as he tried to catch me.
I backed away from him, our blue eyes locked in a fierce battle as we stood a few feet apart, our bodies facing one another in defensive stances. My sides heaved as I breathed heavily, in taking air as fast as possible as I tried to make myself appear less flustered.
Meanwhile, my mate just stared at me, a happy glint in his eyes. I didn't like that one bit.
"Oh little mate. You never should have run." He tisks in his wolf form, a deep rumble coming from his large black chest, almost as though he's laughing.
My eyes narrow on him and I bare my teeth, showing him he doesn't own me.
I can hear howls in the distance, but they're far off. Within a couple of minutes my mate's scouts will have tracked our scents back to us. So for my plan to work, I need to be long gone by then.
Raising my head to make myself appear taller, I said with a straight face, "I reject you as my mate".
Instantly I felt pain tighten in my chest, and I could tell my mate felt it just as much as I did, if not more.
He whimpered slightly, bowing his head as if in pain, and that ladies and gentlemen, was my chance of freedom.
I turned, leaping to the side to once more take off into the trees, only to be tackled to the ground by my mate.
"I'm not letting you go that easily." He growled in my ear as he pushed me into the ground harder.
I snapped at him, trying to wiggle out of his grip, but he held strong, his sheer size keeping me caged to the forest floor.
He looked at me, that evil glint back in his eye as he lowered his muzzle to my ear.
Then in only a soft whisper I could hear he said, "Your going to regret ever trying to reject me, because your mine, and I'm not letting you go now that I've found you." And with those words he gave a loud growl, his head dipping to my neck as his teeth tore into my flesh.
