After that three guards volunteered to notify Isabel's friends, it was only a couple of hours when they arrived.
- "Hi guys!" - Isabel greeted them. - "This is my new friend Varian."
Varian looked at Isabel when she had said, friend?
- "Hello" - said Varian.
- "Varian" - said Isabel pointing to her friends one by one. - "These are my friends Amara, Cristina, and Quique."
- "Hello" - Cristina and Amara greeted him.
Quique raised an eyebrow.
- "You're the shipwrecked guy?" – he asks.
- "Yes" - Varian answered, hesitantly.
Isabel clapped her hands.
- "Anyway, we have a lot of work to do, where do we start?" - Isa asks.
Varian put his index finger to his lips.
- "Well, according to the scientific method we have to identify the problem, that is it, I need a problem" - he said. - "If not ... with what purpose will I build something?"
- "Does anyone have a problem?" - Isabel asked, looking at her friends.
- "Besides that, we have a boy who seems to want to take our friend by going to college with her" - Quique whispered to Amara, who laughed.
Cristina, who had also heard Quique's comment, wanted to support Varian and Isabel, by saying:
- "Well, my main problem is not being able to walk" - she whispered.
Varian stared at the girl's wheelchair.
- "What happened?" - Varian asked delicately.
- "It was an accident" - said Cristina. - "You know? This is an irremediable problem, let's look at something else..."
- "How about you present what you presented for your science contest?" - Isabel asked.
- "Yeah!" - Varian exclaimed. - "Wait, I'll draw it."
Varian took a paper and drawing utensils and began to sketch quickly, after a quarter of an hour he was done.
- "It was something like that" - he explained pointing at the drawing.
- "Let's do it!"- Isabel exclaimed.
Isabel took out all her tools, and they went to work as a group. Varian only wanted one thing. To be able to go to university, steal the necessary stuff and leave.
- "Hey!" - Isabel exclaimed. - "It has taken us a short time."
- "Yes, with the twister you can see that we are going much faster" - Quique commented.
- "Please pass me the caliber, Amara" - Varian asked. - "I have to measure this."
Amara turned around on her own.
- "The object that is on your left, Amara" - clarified Isabel.
- "Ah, yes" - said Amara holding the caliber and giving it to Varian.
After measuring, Varian observed his project and made him long to remember his first love, Cassandra, whom he also tried to kill, but why remember that now?
- "Tomorrow is the Day of the Dead, but next week there will be classes, you will come with me, and we will show your project to Professor Anchoa, with a little luck we will be new partners!" - Isabel exclaimed.
Varian was not motivated by the idea as much as Isabel, and for a moment he felt a little sorry for her, for he was going to betray her for everything the princess trusted in him.
- "Well" - Quique sighed. - "Are we going to see this legendary work or have we not finish decorating?"
Varian was at the side of his invention and let a melancholy sob escape; fortunately no one noticed.
- Behold the power of alchemy! I present the elementary transmodifier" - said Varian and suddenly realized those were the exact same words the first time he showed his invention, and that felt worse.
All the others encouraged him to continue overlooking his despair.
- "In short, you throw sand, it turns, and out comes a crystal called..." - Varian looked at Isabel who smiled. - "It's called... Cassan..." - This time Isabel noticed something was wrong with her friend.
- "Varian?" - she encouraged him. - "It's called..."
- "Cassandrium" - Varian whispered. - "That's what it's called..."
- "What?" - Quique asked. - "Speak up."
- "Cassandrium!" - Varian repeated, shouting. - "did you hear it now!?"
Quique recoiled awkwardly.
- "Okay, okay" - he said, scared.
- "Varian, are you, all right?" - Cristina asked, rolling her wheelchair to approach the boy.
Cassandra ... he had been in love with her, was he still feeling such a thing? He had not tried to kill her?
- "I'm fine" - Varian replied.
- "Can we talk, Varian"? - Isabel asked, raising an eyebrow.
Varian hesitated a moment but accepted after a while.
- "Okay."
Isabel turned away from her friends and then with a frown asked:
- "What's wrong?"
- "Nothing."
- "And why are you talking to Quique like that?" - Isabel snapped, pointing to her friends who looked curious without understanding what was happening.
- "You know what?" - Varian said with disdain. -"I'm not like you, I'm not smart, I'll never be able to attend the university like you because of a stupid invention that can't even win a bogus contest. I'm leaving!"
- Varian, no! - Isabel exclaimed. - Of course, you can go to college! And you're just as smart as I am, even more.
- Your words are not the same as your thoughts - said Varian, defiantly.
Isabel did not respond.
-" I should go" - Varian announced. - "It's almost dinner time, and unlike you, I dine in the kitchen because they do not allow me to eat with you in the dining room."
Isabel remained silent. Her gaze followed Varian until he closed the door behind him.
- "Then ... " - Quique murmured. - Are not we going to see the invention work?
- "Quique now's not the time to..." - Amara whispered.
Isabel kept looking at the closed door without believing the conversation she just had with Varian. She blinked twice and looked at her friends.
- "Yes, Quique" - she answered sure of herself. -" We will see it work. And Professor Anchoa will be interested."
