Varian remained outside, and the grand council started without him. Elena grabbed the mallet, hit the table, and the meeting began.

- "What punishment do we give the boy?" - Esteban began.

- "We still don't know what he wanted" - Naomi said.

Elena pointed to Naomi.

- "That's true, so we need him to come in to show us his ideas and intentions" - she established.

- "Elena is right, but I do not think they were good intentions" - said Francisco.

Meanwhile, Isabel, with her ear pressed to the door, tried to find out what they were talking about, Varian had been her friend and in spite of the betrayal, she wanted the best for him.

- "Princess Isabel, please, we must enter" - said a guard who was holding Varian.

- "Of course, come in" - answered Isabel, moving away.

- "Isabel... I... I must do it if you knew..." - The guard pushed Varian into the room without letting him finish and slammed the door behind him.

Isabel pressed herself against the door again to listen, she could barely hear what was going on behind the boor.

- "I didn't intend to harm anyone" - Varian repeated. - "I just wanted to get things that I couldn't afford!"

- "Did you think about asking for them?" Elena asked, raising an eyebrow.

Varian was surprised at that question. No, he hadn't thought of that. Would they have been given? Moreover, would he have been allowed to take them to Corona?

- "I didn't think you would give them to me" - Varian answered.

- "I would not have thought it either" - commented Esteban and all eyes, focused on him, feeling observed added: - "We would not give them to him equally and you know it." - Elena frowned. - "Well, without rational justification," - Esteban continued.

- "And what is your justification, Varian?" - Francisco asked calmly.

- "I wanted to make an invention" - he whispered with a weak voice.

- "For what purpose?" - Luisa asked.

Varian clenched his fists, looked away and closed his eyes tightly. He was not going to answer, he couldn't, no...

- "I..." - Varian sobbed.

Naomi and Luisa got up to approach the young man.

- "Varian?" - asked Luisa. - Are you all right?

- "No!" - Varian exclaimed. - I'm not alright! I must save him! It was my fault! How can I be okay!?

- "Is he all right?"

- "Will he be maintained?"

- "Varian?"

Varian ran to the door, but the two guards seized his arms.

- "Shall We take him to the dungeons?" - one of them asked.

Elena cleared her throat:

- "Everyone in favor of him being locked up, at least temporarily?" - Elena asked, raising her hand.

For the first time, the whole council voted in favor, raising one hand at a time. The guards pushed Varian towards the dungeons, while he shouted: "I can explain!"

- "I don't like any of this," - Elena said. - "There must be another way."

- "Elena, there is no other way" - her cousin contradicted.

Isabel followed the guards until they reached a point where they did were not allowed to pass.

- "I want to talk to Varian!"- exclaimed the princess. - "I demand to speak with Varian!!"

- "We can't give you that permission, your highness" - explained one of the guards. - "You should ask your sister."

- "You know what?" - Isabel asked with disdain. - "I will, thank you."

He knew he shouldn't make the guard pay for his bad mood, but he couldn't help it. Varian had lied to her and would never do it again, but she would never forgive him.
