(7) It's A Boy!

When Preslynn was 5 months along they were at the doctor's office waiting for the doctor to come in to find out if their baby was a boy or a girl. Dr Maximoff came in and said "sorry it took so long I had to delivery a baby guys." 

"It's fine we don't have class today" Bucky said 

"Alright let's get this appointment started guys. Any problems?' Dr Maximoff said 

Preslynn chewed on her lip and Bucky said "She's been having a lot of back problems and heartburn that's been making her sick. And besides cereal she can't keep anything else down." 

"Okay Preslynn I'm going to prescribe you some nausea medicine that's safe for the baby and get some tums or I have had patients tell me that a glass of milk sometimes helps with the heartburn. As far as only being able to keep cereal down if that's all the baby will allow you to eat then just keep at it. The baby looks good and ..he is gaining weight like he's suppose to." 

"Did you just say he?' Bucky said 

"Yes I did the baby is a boy." Dr Maximoff said as she continued to move the wand around. 

Bucky smiled when he saw the screen and Dr Maximoff said "He's already starting to get into position at 23 weeks and he looks good." 

They watched the ultrasound screen as he moved around and she felt him moving as he kicked her. They got their ultrasounds and she cleaned off her stomach then they met Becca at his mom's doctor's appointment. 

"Alright guys. Um while she's doing her head scan with the nurse I want you all to tell me how she is doing?' Dr Thomas said 

Becca looked down and said "She's not doing well Dr Thomas she called me the other day to come get here at Walmart cause she couldn't remember how she got there. The other night I had to stay with her cause I was scared cause she called me saying she couldn't find my brother and she was walking up down the sidewalk hollering for him when I arrived." 

Bucky said "Dr Thomas she seems to think that I'm 15 years old again because when we told her that we found out what our baby is she started to yell at me and tell me that I was 15 and I shouldn't be having a baby at 15. She knows my girlfriend is Preslynn and that she is pregnant we told her at Christmas she was so excited that was almost 3 months ago." 

Dr Thomas wrote down everything then he said "When is your dad suppose to come home?' 

Becca said "he's suppose to come home next week why?" 

"Does she know why he's gone. Like does she remember what her husband's job is." Dr Thomas said 

"Um not really no it's like she doesn't remember him being a soldier since they have been married." Becca said 

"Does your dad know that it's getting this bad." Dr Thomas said 

"Yes." they all 3 said 

"That's why he put in his retirement papers to come home to help." Becca said 

"Good but you need to prepare him he's not going to have the same reception that he's had in the past." Dr Thomas said

Bucky looked down with tears falling as Preslynn squeezed his hand and said "Dr Thomas she's not going to get better is she?" as he looked at the doctor 

"I'm sorry James she's not. Her memory is fading fast and it's only a matter of time before she forgets who you all are and who the family is or even who she is. When your dad returns you all need to have a serious family discussion about what you all want to do for her. She's going to become violent she's not going cooperate with you all about anything when she doesn't know who you all are. Um James and Preslynn you two need to talk together about rather not you will feel safe bringing the baby around her once he is born because she could slowly start to think your baby is you James and might not give him back to you all." Dr Thomas said 

"Yes sir." Bucky said as he wiped tears. 

They finished up with that appointment then helped Becca get her settled into the house then headed back to campus. She sat up a video chat with her family in TN to announce the baby's gender along with their friends in her dorm as Bucky placed his hands on her baby bump with blue paint and everyone screamed "IT"S A BOY!!" when he removed his hands and they smiled said "Yeah it's a boy Carter James Barnes." 

"Oh my gosh I love the name" Janie her mom said 

Bucky kissed her and whispered "I love it too." 

After they talked to everyone and their friends left the dorm. They were laying on her couch cuddling while they faced each other and he whispered "What do we do baby?'

"I don't know we will just have to see what your dad says when he gets back and talks to the doctor we don't need to make any decisions till he gets home." she said as she looked up at him.

He was twirling her hair and he said "It scares me Pres she's my mom and she's forgetting so much. It's like her mind is going backwards." 

"I know baby it's scary but I'm right here you aren't alone." she whispered as she hugged him and they fell asleep on the couch.
