I get inside and go to the kitchen to get a snack before attempting to start my homework. Just as I finished cutting an apple, I hear the phone ring.
"Hello?" I answer, not knowing who it would be.
"Tonight 11 o'clock, same place as last time." The voice says before hanging up. I hang up and quickly dial Steve's number.
"Harrington residence." His mom answers, I am surprised to find that they are home.
"Hi Mrs. Harrington, it's Skylar. Is Steve home?" I ask politely, even using my full name since they prefer it.
"Oh Skylar, hi sweetie. Yes, I'll go get him. How are you and your parents?" She asks before screaming for Steve.
"I'm great, ready to finish senior year. My dad is in New York right now and my mom is in Italy. They should be back next week." I tell her, wrapping my finger around the cord.
"Oh, good to hear. If you want to stay here for a few nights so you aren't alone you are more than welcomed to honey." She offers.
"Thanks Mrs. Harrington, I will see how this week goes." I respond, preferring to be alone here without parental supervision.
"Okay, here's Steve. Bye Skylar." She ends handing the phone to Steve.
"What's up Sky?" Steve asks, obviously not expecting my phone call.
"I got the call, there is another concert tonight at 11. Can you pick me up?" I ask hoping he says yes since I don't have a car.
"Shit Sky, I don't know. My parents are home this time, I don't think they will let me." Steve explains.
"Can't you say that you are staying here since my parents are gone?" I reason, really wanting to go tonight.
"Let me check." He says before I hear him asking his parents. I can only hear mumbling and then I hear Steve sigh into the phone. "They said you can stay here but they won't let me stay at yours."
"Couldn't you have lied and made up a reason why I had to stay here? Steve, come on. Work with me here." I complain, starting to get frustrated I might miss the concert.
"Sorry Sky, I don't know what to tell you." Steve apologizes.
"No, it's not your fault. Thanks anyway, I'll just have to miss this one." I say a little defeated.
"I'll see you tomorrow morning to pick you up then?" He confirms.
"Yeah, see you bright and early. Bye Steve." I say and hang up once he says bye back.
I go back to my apple and begin eating it while grabbing my book bag to start my English homework. I quickly lose interest in my homework and get distracted by some magazines. I look at the clock and realize it's almost eight o'clock.
I go to the kitchen to make dinner, while the pasta is boiling, I hear the phone ring again and I pray that it's Steve and he found a way for us to go tonight.
"Hello?" I answer, hoping to hear Steve's voice.
"Sky?" I hear the person ask.
"Billy?" I ask, thinking I recognize the voice.
"The one and only." I hear his cocky voice respond.
"Ah yes, this is definitely Billy. What's up Hargrove?" I laugh.
"I'm just watching Max and was getting bored so I thought I would call. What are you doing?" He says so nonchalant sounding.
"Procrastinating on the English homework by reading a magazine and cooking dinner." I tell him still flipping through it, looking at the pictures.
"Which band are you reading about now?" He asks.
"Misfits. They were more popular a few years ago, but they just split up so it's a whole article about them." I explain to him. "Wait, how did you know I was reading about music?"
"You mentioned you read punk rock magazines and I figured that's what you were doing since you are obsessed with it. You usually only talk about music when I'm with you Sky." Billy laughs at the end.
"Well yeah, music is the only thing I really care about. If I could follow a band on tour and get all the behind the scenes of producing music my life would be complete." I admit.
"So why don't you?" He asks, as if it's that simple to do.
"You need connections Billy, I don't want to be a groupie and I don't want to be in a band. I want to manage a band or help record and produce music. Not much of that happens here in Hawkins." I tell him, throwing the magazine on the kitchen counter.
"I could try and introduce you to Black Flag. Remember my friend is friends with them." He offers.
"Shut up, are you serious? You would do that for me?" I ask in disbelief.
"Yeah, it's not that big of a deal Sky. We would need to go to California though, that's where they are."
I let out a squeal of excitement at his words. "Billy, I am holding you to this. You can't back out now." I try to get as close as I can to the stove so I can turn it off, but the phone cord isn't cooperating.
"I wasn't planning on it." Billy laughs at me, probably because of how excited I sound.
I turn off the stove successfully and silently congratulate myself. "Wait, you have a car, right?" I ask suddenly remembering the concert tonight.
"Uh yeah, you were in it earlier today sweetheart." He condescendingly reminds me.
I roll my eyes even though he can't see me. "What time are your parents going to be home?"
"Around ten, they just went to dinner with some work friends. Why?" He asks.
"Want to go to a concert with me?" I ask hoping he says yes.
"A concert. On a school night. I don't know Sky." He states sarcastically and I try not to laugh at him.
"Come on, it will be fun I promise. They have local punk rock bands play and it's a really cool atmosphere." I say trying to convince him.
"Yeah, I guess. What time do I need to pick you up?" He asks.
"Oh my gosh, seriously? This is amazing! I promise you will love it! Come to my place around 10:30 or earlier, it's a bit of a drive but so worth it. Okay I need to go get ready and finish my homework! Thanks Billy see you soon!" I quickly tell him before hanging up the phone.
Shit I have an hour and a half before he should get here, guess my English homework will have to wait.
