Chapter 2: What ARE you?

"Um...should I answer that?" The octoling said, puzzled.

"I don't see why not!" Cuttlefish exclaimed, "Go on ahead boy."

The octoling hesitantly stepped up to the phone, pushing a button on it.

"What's crackalacking home skillet?" A voice shouted from the phone.

The octoling jumped in fear.

"The promise land awaits. You ready for something bigger than yourself?" The voice asked.

The octoling nodded, a look of determination on his face.

"Good. You are applicant 10,008." The voice said, as a card and some other device emerged from the phone, dropping to the floor. "Those are the two things you need for the Deepsea Metro, a CQ-80 and CQ Card. Do NOT lose them." The voice said, and ceased.

"Number 10,008? That certainly is a beakful." Cuttlefish said, "How about I just refer to you as Agent 8 for now."

The octoling nodded. "Sounds good to me." He said as he picked up the CQ Card and CQ-80.

As he picked them up, the sound of a train echoed in the distance. Then the train rolled into view. "Guess this is our ride." Agent 8 said, stepping onto the train.

"Seems like it." Cuttlefish said, stepping onto the train as well.

"Welcome aboard. This is the Deepsea Metro." A somewhat nasally voice said.

Captain Cuttlefish and Agent 8 turned, to see a...sea slug?

"Gah!" Cuttlefish exclaimed, "What in the name of the Great Zapfish are you?"

"Well, I am the conductor of this train. You may refer to me as C.Q. Cumber." C.Q. Cumber said.

"C.Q. Cumber.." Agent 8 said, looking at his CQ Card and CQ-80, "So, did you make these?" He asked, holding the two objects up.

"As a matter of fact, I did not." C.Q. responded, "Kamabo Co., the company behind even the Deepsea Metro, did."

Agent 8 nodded, and asked, "So...how do we get to the so-called 'promise land'?"

"Ah, you are one of them..." C.Q. said, "Well, to get there, you first need to find four thangs. They are found in stations on the rails of this very metro."

Agent 8 and Cuttlefish looked at each other, a bit puzzled. "Thangs, huh.." Cuttlefish said, "Well I guess we have some hunting to do, don't we, 8?"

Agent 8 nodded, "I guess so. Let's get started then, shall we?" He looked at the CQ-80. "How does this even work?" 8 asked.

"Push the little button at the bottom to get started." C.Q. responded.

Agent 8 did just that, and a hologram-like map showed up. Woah...this is cool!! Agent 8 thought. "Now I guess I do...this?" Agent 8 asked as he selected the first station.

C.Q. nodded, "Fine start. Let's get you there."

They set off for the first station. The journey, Agent 8 knew, was only beginning.
