"Noah, um this is Melanie's father, Andrew Bywater. Melanie has been in an accident and has fallen into a coma. She has been placed at the Hospital in Madison, only thirty minutes from here. Please visit her soon, she needs some loving company."
I can hear the sadness in his tone. But I don't believe him. Melanie is a very safe driver, she would never get into an accident. If she were to get into an accident, she definitely wouldn't fall into a coma. No. It'd be a small accident, not a life threatening one.
"Did you hear about Mel?"
"Oh my god I hope she's okay!"
"She better live! I was gonna ask her out,"
I hear all these remarks everyday. I will not choose to believe it.
"Gee, the man that did that will be sorry."
"I hear that she already died!"
"I heard that they have to cut her leg off,"
The third day of something big, is when the rumors start.
"I heard her head fell off."
"I hear she won't be able to breath anymore and needs a cannula."
"I heard that she hit the car on purpose."
Third week. Things get worse.
"Noah? You're her.. I mean you were her boyfriend. Do you know?"
"Did you do it?"
First month things point to me.
"Oh boy. Noah did you here? Melanie is in horrible condition and might be brain dead. They are going to give her one more week and then unplug her."
Month and a half. Now I'm starting to believe. And now, I know I need to see her. One last time.
