read ch. 17 if you haven't already)
•Jimin's leg twitched up and down continuously as his fingertips tapped against the hardwood table. He'd constantly check the time on his watch, feeling like time couldn't move any slower. Yet, every minute that passed by felt like time was slipping through his fingertips.
"Jimin-ah," Jimin's mother called her distracted son. "you should eat. You look thin."
They were currently dinning at a restaurant in the heart of downtown LA. Jimin's family would be leaving the states in a few days and they asked for Jimin to spend time with them on the one day that was the most special to him, her birthday.
"I'm not that hungry." He smiled at his loving mother as he pushed the plate further away from him.
Although the woman had a smile on her face, her heart ached as she saw the pained look in her son's eyes. All she wanted was for her son to be happy, and she'd do anything for his happiness. But she understood that she was no longer the only woman he loved. There was another, the one that her husband didn't not approve of.
"Where are the others?" Her mother tried to fill the silence by asking about his members, his other family.
"They're with a friend." He simply answered, not wanting to mention Molly's name in front of his father.
Although Jimin's father showed a cold front, he was a companionate man. At a young age, he had faced many challenges and he struggled for many years as he tried to build a good life for himself. Life was not kind to him and he learned that in order to thrive, you must put what is best for you before what makes you happy.
He thought he was protecting Jimin; keeping him from destroying what Jimin had already built for himself. He was proud of his son, and wanted him to live a better life than he did.
"Well that's not an excuse." Jimin's father said, his lips in a pout and cheeks round as they were stuffed with food. His father was where Jimin had gotten his cute features from.
His father noticed his son's unusual demeanor. He thought Jimin's members would cheer him up if they were they with him.
"It's a special day." Jimin pursed his lips, thinking about how much he'd missed out on. He had never spent a single birthday with her. He never saw her blow out her candles or give her a kiss for her birthday. But she was always there for him despite how busy she was.
"Are you okay?" Jimin's brother asked, gently placing his hand on Jimin's shoulder.
"Yeah." Jimin nodded, hiding his teary eyes from his family.
Jimin's father sighed, placing the bowl of rice on the table. "Is it because of that woman?" He growled, glaring at his son.
"Her name is Molly." Jimin spat, curling his hands into fists.
His father shook his head, clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "I knew it wouldn't last from the minute she-"
"It's your fault!" Jimin raised his voice, slamming his fist on the table.
His father was taken back by his son's outburst. Jimin never raised his voice to his parents, not did he even slam a fist down. So his father sat quietly, shocked look on his face.
"Jimin- this isn't the right time-" his mother tried to calm Jimin down, afraid he'd start a scene.
"She made me happy." His voice cracked as he said those words to his father. Jimin's eyes were glossed over with tears as he tried to hold them back. "But you ruined it."
Jimin chuckled at his father who remained quiet in his seat. The look in his father's eyes was like fuel to the fire raging inside Jimin and he laughed dryly because crying would be too childish. Jimin saw the worry in his eyes. He knew his father wasn't worried about Jimin's feelings. The worry was about his son possibly going back to the woman he saw unfit for his son.
"Don't worry, father." Jimin smiled bitterly, unclenching his fists. "She's gone."
