I ran up to my house and through the front door.
Inside, what I saw was the single most terrifying sight I would ever see.
My family, all 5 of them, were huddled on the couch, cowering in fear. My mother's eyes were red from fear and stress, and I could see little Mac shaking, his eyes closed. I didn't know what they were afraid of, and it terrified me.
"Guys?" I whimpered, terror running throughout my body like electricity.
Cassie shook her head, her eyes gravely serious. Mac put his finger to his mouth. Shhhh.
All of the sudden, a man in a ski mask popped out from behind the couch. I screamed. It really was an intruder. But I didn't run. I couldn't. I stood there, frozen, horrified at the sight. He had a gun. His gun was pointed right at me.
"Don't make a move, or I'll shoot you and your family," I heard through his muffled mask.
I nodded fearfully. I understood. Any attempts to escape and he would kill us.
"Sit." He pointed toward the couch. I walked toward my family and sat next to them, feeling the eye of his gun following me. I sat down and my mother immediately pulled me closer, enveloped into her bear hug. I was now officially being held captive.
I heard the school bus honk. I looked out the window just in time to see the school bus leave. My one chance of rescue. They left me. And now I'm going to die.
"They're not coming back," the man said, a hint of amusement in his deep voice.
He walked around the couch and sat on the glass coffee table, facing us. He examined his gun, and pointed it at us. We're dead. We're going to be murdered. But he didn't shoot us. Instead, he took off his mask.
"Just had to make sure the safety was on," he spoke, but I didn't focus on his words. Instead, I could only stare at his face. His full, pink lips. His narrow nose, a sharp bridge. His luscious hair that started brown at the roots and ended even darker. Maybe a few years older than I was. He was attractive—No, more than that. He was hot. Model hot. A model that was keeping my family captive by gunpoint, at least.
"What do you want with me?" My mother cowered. Her blown-out hair was now messy, ragged, sweaty.
"I don't want anything to do with you.... or your son." He pulled his mask back on. Part of me wanted him to take it off again, to see his gorgeous face. The other part of me wanted to bash his skull in for scaring my 6-year-old brother, for making my mom cry, for messing up her hair.
He walked up to me and gently rubbed the back of his finger against my jaw.
"Don't touch her." My mom hissed.
"Don't worry, I won't violate your daughters when I take them."
My mom let out a small sob. I didn't know if it was relief that he wasn't going to violate us or heartbreak about him taking us. Taking us where? I didn't want him to take me. I would graduate high school in 3 months, I was this close to making it out.
"Then why us?" Stevie spat. "Why just us girls?"
He smiled a little, mischief in his eyes. "You'll see when you get there."
He took off his mask again. Again, I couldn't stop staring at his chiseled jawline, those eyebrows that were better than mine, his piercing eyes.
"You see," He began. "I've been watching you all for some time now. You interest me. You, as a family interest me." I shuddered. "You all should really be flattered I'm so taken. Now, my boss needs four girls between the ages of 15 and 30 to help him out with something. Unfortunately, that means I have to take you."
