synopsis: au in which after their fall out, marty returns at the least acceptable time ever

quote: ❛ it's funny how seeing you
gives me both joy and sadness at the
same time ❜

BUFFY WALKED THROUGH the door that was being held by walker, her somewhat boyfriend. they weren't dating, per se. but they were something? she liked him, things just weren't always the easiest with him.

they were at the movie theater, making up for the lost time when walker visited his grandma a few days ago. "thank you." she said sincerely, watching the door shut behind him. "you don't have to thank me."

see, she couldn't not like him. it's literally quite impossible not too, she knew why andi had so much trouble picking between him and jonah, but if it were her, she would have him without a doubt.

but what if it wasn't jonah? what if it had been someone else, would it be so easy then? she couldn't deny the fact that she still thought about him. he had been a big part of her life wether she liked to admit it or not.

they got in line and waited for their turn to pay, of course walker payed for both of their tickets. "i could've paid for mine, it's no trouble."

"what kind of person would i be if i made you pay for yourself when i'm the one who invited who?" and there it is again, her realizing why she liked him. he was absolutely the sweetest.

they walked over to the other line to get snacks, them now in front looking at the stuff, "you see anything you want?"

buffys eyes drifted off to the side when she heard the door open. and suddenly it felt as if the world was spinning. that everything was still and quiet, maybe even in slow motion.

her heart had to be in her toes by now. in walked the person whom she had missed for months, the person who's heart she broke, while in the process of breaking her own.

marty. marty. marty. "marty." she whispered, as if he might actually hear her.

"marty?" walkers voice brought her out of her trance, and she'd eyes snapped back over to him. "what? i said um . . . smarties, i like smarties." he walked closer to the counter and started to pay for the stuff, while her eyes looked back over, to only find his eyes on her.

and their gaze locked for a few seconds, and wave of joy came over her. she's been waiting for the moment of his return forever.

but within seconds sadness washed over, watching as he turned back around and walked out of the door as if he wasn't even there in the first place.

"ready to go?" and once again, walkers voice had snapped her out of her thoughts.

she turned towards him, "y-yeah." she stuttered, ignoring the tears threatening to spill.

no words would ever describe how she felt this day. or the following days after, because he was now back in school. she seen him everyday. and they walked by each other as if not that long ago they'd been racing down jefferson's track, or laughing over absolutely nothing at the spoon, or bickering over nothing and everything at the same time.

it felt as if it were a whole different world, like it never actually happened.
