lyric: ❛ let a couple years water down how
i'm feeling about you. and every time we talk
every single word builds up to this moment and
i gotta convince myself i don't want it even though
i do ❜

IT'S WEIRD TO too see a person whom you thought you would spend your life with, be with someone else. that's exactly how cyrus feels, him and tj we're together since they were thirteen. and of course they argued and broke before up but they were always back together within a week.

this time was different. it's been almost two years since their breakup. they still see each other in the halls, they still have each other's phone numbers, but it's all different. tj isn't exactly seeing anyone but he's out there, talking to other people and hanging out with them.

cyrus can't help but feel as if they're really over.

TJ KIPPEN SAT at the lunch table waiting for his friends. andi and amber came first, followed by buffy, cyrus, and marty. of course cyrus had sat the farthest from him as he could get.

he couldn't eat all through lunch, he kept sneaking glances over at cyrus, and sometimes he'd find him staring back. this has been the longest they stayed apart, and it didn't sit right with him.

him and cyrus weren't supposed to break up.

CYRUS SIGHED AND looked down at his full tray of food that he hadn't touched. buffy leaned over and whispered, "when are you two gonna quite messing around and get back together."

"you tell me." he replied, picking up his tray and walking to the garbage can, throwing the entire thing away and storming out the door.

TJ WATCHED CYRUS walk out the door, slowly he look over at buffy who's eyes were already on him. "what happened?"

"go after him." she mouthed back, ushering for him to follow cyrus. he got up and practically jogged over to throw his stuff away before going the way cyrus did.

out in the hallway tj saw cyrus turning a corner, quickly he ran after him. "cyrus." he called out, cyrus stopped in his tracks, turning around to face him.

CYRUS STOOD THERE waiting for tj to catch up to him. he wondered why he even came after him in the first place, did he even care still?

"where are you going, lunch isn't over for another 20 minutes?" cyrus tried to keep eye contact with him, but it was hard. it felt weird to hold it, like something would happen if he did. "wasn't hungry."

"you never miss a chance to hang out with your friends." he shoved his hands in his pockets and finally met his eyes.

"it's really none of your business, tj."

THAT STUNG. "i have a right to care, cyrus." he didn't expect to see cyrus trying hard to hide a smile, but quickly the smile went away. "oh so you do still care, kind of hard to tell."

"what does that even mean?" this is the first time cyrus had ever acted like this, no matter how many arguments they got in, they still loved each other. but it doesn't seem like that right now.

"it doesn't mean anything." and for a split second, tj seen a flash of pain in his eyes. as he turned away he got all the courage he's been needing for the past two year and grabbed his arm.

CYRUS DIDN'T EVEN know what was going on until tj's lips were on his. after what felt like forever he pulled away. "i care, i've always cared."

cyrus furrowed his eyebrows, "but i thought— but what about marty?"

"marty, what about marty?" sure, him and marty had gotten closer but they were just friends. did cyrus really think something was happening between them?

"i just t-thought that you were moving on, and that it was marty." he stuttered, tj couldn't help but smile.

"it's not marty, it's you. it's always been you." his voice was almost a whisper, he inched closer about to kiss him again.

"it's always been you too." cyrus whispered before closing the gap in between them.

authors note !
this is really bad and i know i say that about all of them but this was just isn't it.

but i always imagined tj and cyrus's relationship not always being perfect. and i know 'kid' relationships don't always last, they never really do.

but i feel like they would that kind of couple that would take a break in high school and find their way back to each other, you know?

maybe not. o whale.
