The best word to describe James Potter would have to be 'dumbass' because he doesn't get messages through his thick skull. He has day dreamed over Lily for years meanwhile you've been doing the same thing to him but does he notice your obvious attraction towards him? Nope, nope, and definitely not.

Even though James was completely oblivious the rest of the Marauders were not. You were good friends with them and they could all see that you had feelings for him. It was not a secret to anyone but him. You could trust them because they were like your family.

It was early December and the winter ball was coming up fast. The teachers had been decorating their classes and the great hall look festive like always. You were sitting with Alice and the Marauders for breakfast. Lily had left for a slug-club meeting so she wasn't there. Alice was telling you that Frank had asked her to the dance and although you felt happy for her, you can't help being sad that James wasn't going to ask you.

"Say Sirius, who'd you ask again?" James said from the table.

"Marlene McKinnon." Sirius replied. "Having dance problems Prongsie?" Sirius teased.

"My Lily Flower has denied my request to accompany her yet again!" James sighs.

"That reminds me! Anna Daferty said she would go with me!" Peter said excited

"Even Wormy has a date! No offence Pete..." James says putting his head on the table.

Peter just shrugs and goes back to his breakfast.

"Better hurry Prongs! All the good one are gonna be gone~" Sirius says in a sing-song tone.

"Okay, okay... Oi! Kaylie! Care to go to the dance with me!" James smirks down the table in her direction.

She giggles with her friends and says yes. You shouldn't have gotten your hopes up and you knew it. It still hurts though. The tears start to form and as to not let anyone see them you stand up fast and start walking away.

"I'm going to the library." You say. You don't bother to look up or stop walking.

Remus looks up from his book. He knows where you're going and stands up too.

"I'm gonna go too, done with this book anyways." He says and starts speed walking out the great hall.

Once he gets there he sets his book with the librarian and jogs over to the corner of the library where there wasn't a lot of light and only one or two small tables. Sure enough, you were there trying to dry your eyes. He walks over and gives you a hug and you begin to cry into his shoulder.

"I'm so stupid. Why do I do this to myself?" You say into his warm sweater.

"He's the only stupid one Y/N! He is just a dumb average teen boy, and like most dumb average teen boy, he needs to be told what he wants." Remus says while rubbing circles on your back.

"I just... I got my hopes up again... I let a fantasy idea block my reality... I even bought a dress in the hopes that he would ask me to the dance and look how that went." You say now more annoyed than upset.

"You should go anyways, maybe with Lily or Marlene?" Remus suggests.

"I don't want to ruin they're dates by moping around" you reply.

"Y/N..." Remus sighs "You need to go and if a date is what you need I wasn't planning on going but-" you cut him off befor e he could finish.

"Yayyy! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! This is going to be so much fun!" You say happy that your best friend offered to suffer through something he didn't want for you.
