Chapter Eight
Since it was my day off at the diner I deep cleaned the apartment and looked online to see if the teachers updated the website for syllabus for the classes. It was Friday and I was trying to get ready for Monday since I promised Myrcella some ice cream and a park adventure, and thought I surprise her on Sunday for a fun trip for her.
It was nearing two p.m., so I grabbed my bag and made sure my wallet was in there with my phone I lock up and head to pick up Myrcella. Walking down the street and looking around at the people that seem to not have a care in the world, I started to wish I had that life. I wouldnt have Myrcella if I didnt do the things I did and I'm grateful that she has turned my world upside down and made it more fun than anything.
Stepping up the stairs and going inside of the school, I walk down the hallway towards her class. Seeing all the kids lined up I spot Myrcella and a boy talking to each other. I smile and watch for awhile, until the boy notices me and taps Myrcella's shoulder to show her I'm behind. She smiles big and runs up to me and wraps her arms around my legs. Hugging her back, I ask if she's ready to go. She grabs my hand and we start walking out of the building. Spinning her around, making her giggle while we head to get ice cream down the block she tells me about her day at school.
"So who was the boy you were talking to?" I asked and see that her cheeks become red. "No one mommy, just a friend." I laugh at her and little and she gives me a angry face since I'm laughing at her.
"Whatever you say sweetie." Opening the door for her we walk up to the line and I look down at Myrcella. "What flavor sweetie." She looks up at the menu and decides on strawberry. Waiting behind two customers I tell Myrcella to go sit down and to be in sight so I can keep an eye on her.
Moving up to the counter with wallet in hand I tell the cashier what I would like and pay with cash. I stepped a little to the side so the customer behind could order and wait for mine, I look over to the table and see Myrcella setting down napkins.
"Strawberry and mint chocolate?" A voice says and I look back to the counter to see my order. Thanking him and going to the table I hand Myrcella hers and then we began to eat in silence. Some people would think it was weird that a daughter and mother would eat in silence but Myrcella was like me, like to savor the food than talk and get cold, or in this situation melt.
Throwing away the garbage and heading out I look to the sky and see the sun will be setting in about an hour. Walking hand and hand we head to the park across from where we live, so its closer incase something happens. Myrcella began on the playground while I sat at a bench and watched her play. She was playing with other kids and seemed to have a blast as always. She made friends quick, unlike me back in the day I couldnt make one friend really. Could say I was the weird one but wasnt my fault that the parents told their children to stay away from a child that has a mother that loved drugs, more than her own daughter. It became worse after she died and word got around, high school sucked with the bullies.
"Hey mommy I'm hungry." Looking down at my phone to see that it was already going on five thirty, I nod my head and get up. I didnt realize I was caught up in my thoughts and watching Myrcella the time had gone by so fast. Crossing the street to head to our apartment, I push the door open for us and began to head upstairs.
Unlocking the door and setting our things down on the bar I began to heat up some leftovers I made from lunch today. Getting two glasses to fill up with some water, I set them down on the dinner table. Hearing the microwave beep I hurry and stir the pasta to make sure its warm all the way through and not cold in the middle. Putting the servings on the plate I set down one for Myrcella and sit down with mine. Knowing she's tired I just let her eat and go to bed while I clean up and head to her room to kiss her goodnight. She was already passed out when I stepped in and finished tucking her in and kissing her goodnight.
Walking to my room to change into pjs and setting an alarm for tomorrow incase we slept in a little, I tuck myself in and turn off my lamp and drift off to sleep, dreading tomorrow.
