Jen's P.O.V.

"..you deserve it and I want you to feel special every day, love."

Inwardly groaning to myself, I wheel around and walk out the back of the locker room. The thought of seeing them together, again, is too much. I mean, how can she be so fucking stupid? Did she not see that Dahlia is a possessive, heartless bitch?

Pinching the brim of my nose, I continue walking towards the parking lot and soon realize that I have no ride home. Great. Just great.

"Hey, tiger, need a ride home?" Lauren's sly voice slides into my ears and I'm grateful.

"Yes. Please!" I shout exasperatedly and gain a snicker from her.

We walk back to her car in silence, neither of us knowing what to say. I know that she wants to talk to me about Gwen. To tell me that she was busy or that she really cared about me, but I really didn't want to hear any of it. If Gwen liked me then she wouldn't run around with a known player trying to get her to love her.

Her Sky blue jeep peers at us over the rows of cars, making it easier to find. About one fucking foot away from her car we bump into the dazzling couple of the day.

Why me god? I'm a good kid, for the most part.

"Hey, guys. Where ya headed?"

Scratching the back of my head, I answer, "She was just taking me home."

"Oh, how about you come out to eat with us?" Gwen interjects but obviously Dahlia is not too happy with that idea.

Why would she even suggest that? I mean I wanted to hang before but why does she suddenly want me to tag along? So that I could see them suck each other's faces? Yeah, no thanks.

Acting without thinking, I smile, "I would love to but I have plans with someone else. Maybe next time." It seems that Gwen's mood dampens and I cheer inside my head. Not my fault that she chose her over me.

"Plans?" There's obvious hurt in her eyes but I can't back down now.

"Uh yeah. Lacy wanted to hang so she's coming over to my place for the night. Not like I was doing anything else, so might as well have company, right?."

"Oh, uh, yeah. Definitely. Well see you later I guess?"

"Yeah. Sure. Later." Answering coolly, I slide into Lauren's passenger seat, waiting for her to get in.

Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit!

Why'd I lie? I didn't want to hurt her I jus-

"Great fucking job!! You got under her skin soo badly buddy!!" Lauren squeals happily as soon as she gets in.

"I didn't me--"

She cuts me off, "No it's a great thing, don't be sorry! She's the one that cancelled on you. Make her jealous, kiddo!" A small smile creeps its way to my lips.

I made her jealous?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally reaching my house, I jump out shouting a quick thanks over my shoulder and run straight into my open garage. The automatic light flickers to life once I'm inside, taking in my presence.
Going inside my house, I shut the garage door and head right for the kitchen that is currently encased in a delicious scent.
"Hey Honey, is that you?" My mom shouts, not turning her back from the over crowded stove.
Her mahogany brown hair cascades down her back, stopping just before the white apron wound around her waist. Without seeing her face, I know she's smiling, for what, I'm not sure. She's always happy and that makes me smile.
She is always able to find light in the dark world we live in and I'm lucky to have a mother like her.
"Honey?" She questions again after I don't answer.
"Yeah momma, it's me." Placing my stuff on the floor, I run to the sink to wash my hands to help with dinner.
"No hun, that's fine. You smell, like really bad. Go shower, I'll finish up down here. Okay?"
Without hesitation, I'm out of the kitchen and up to my room. Stripping out of my clothes I dash into the bathroom and take a quick shower. On the other side of the locked door, my mother knocks, telling me dinner is ready.
I wrap my towel around myself and throw on my Cookie Monster pj's and run down the stairs and straight into my dad's bulky chest. Quickly wrapping his arms around me, I'm locked in his muscular embrace.
"Hey daddy." I mumble into his chest but he just squeezes tighter before letting go and letting my lungs inhale.
"Where's Gwen?" He asks, rubbing his scruffy beard. His soft green eyes search my face for an answer that my mouth isn't able to give.
Finally realizing I hadn't answered his question, I tell him that she had other plans to which he just nodded his head in understanding.
My parents never really asked much of me nor did they expect me to become the next president. They understood when to stop with the questions and I loved them for that. I had my own space when I was with them.
After dinner I raced up to my room and started on my homework. About two hours in, my phone buzzed to life with about thirty billion text messages. After the thousandth buzz, I faintly got sick of it and went to check who was texting me at nine, almost ten, o'clock.
Unlocking my phone, I delete all of the group chats and focus on the one person who has always had my attention.
'Hey, can you meet me at Sue's?' Her final message reads. She sent it three minutes ago but I'm still quick to reply.
'Yeah sure. Right now?'
Not even a second later she replies 'yes' and I'm concerned. Why is she responding so quickly?
I mean she's with Dahlia so what could possibly be wrong?
