Chapter 21- Who are you really?

       Drowsily I remember...
A dream from some time ago..
I was standing outside..minding myself. I was happy and satisfied, watching the clouds roll on by. Suddenly, the world was dark and I looked up at where the clouds were. An ominous red light was all that met my eyes. I sighed and closed my eyes as I accepted the newly found light. I fall to the ground backwards ever so slowly.. and then I awake.

"Hey Varian, can I ask you something weird?"
"Sure, what's up?"
"Have you ever wondered what Love is..?"
"Ehh, not really. I mean it's really just the release of chemicals when we s-"
I shake my head and pout at his words, putting a finger to his lip to shush him,
"That can't be it. There must be more!"
Varian stared confused and then shrugged, slightly flushed in his face.
"I don't know.."
Suddenly, (y/n) leans in, pecking Varian on the lips before leaping back, flushed in the face,
"Did you feel anything?"
Varian sat, jaw opened in shock as he tried to comprehend what had happened. Finally, he spoke up,
"I..felt something I guess.."
(Y/n) chuckled and put her hands on her hip proudly,
"Then I guess that's what Love is! You love me!"
Varian turned 50 shades of red that day.

Varian and (y/n) sat in the grass silently, watching the clouds slowly pass. It was peaceful. Nothing could break it except the sudden muttering of (y/n) to Varian,
"What do you think about rapunzel?"
Varian raised an eyebrow at the odd question, but answered without hesitation,
"She's a great person. I trust her, and I don't think she'd ever let me down... and I appreciate that."
(Y/n) chuckled and looked back up at the sky, when Varian got up to look at her,
"And.. I feel the same about you. I really do trust you, and you're always there for me which I appreciate a lot.. I know I'm not the best and I think you could do better than me, but I won't let my concerns hold me back from protecting you."
(Y/n) stared back in shock before smiling and winking,
"You're adorable when you're serious."
"...shut up."

Varian has worked harder than ever trying to figure out a way to get rapunzel to him. I sigh as I recall our past. I really thought we had something, but he turned on me the second he found his dad. Was he always like this? I shake my head, and sigh before looking back at him. I fight the urge to call out to him, 'who are you really?' But it lingers in my mind and makes me more and more curious as to what he would say. I finally, I gather up every ounce of courage in my body to expel what I've pondered for this time,
"Did you ever really love me...?"
Varian stopped moving and turned to me. For a second he looked unsure as to what to say, but soon enough came the scowl and baring of teeth,
"Love? Really? God (y/n), you really are something. This isn't fairytale land anymore, and the second you realize that is the second that you join me and we destroy rapunzel!"
"Oh so now you want me to side with you? You've gotta be kidding me."
Varian spits, looking back to his work .

I got my answer, and I knew the solution to my problem.
