Liberty's P.O.V

When the lunch bell rang, I'd never been quite so happy in my existence. I packed up my things and almost ran to the cafeteria, where, by that point, everyone else was already gathered and starting to eat. I walked towards them and dumped my bag on the table, dropping into the seat next to Peter.

"Bad morning?" he asked, slight traces of sarcasm in his voice. I looked sideways at him and he reached for my hand, grasping it in his, letting our fingers intertwine. I smiled. He did always know how to make me feel better.

"Think of it this way," Ned started, taking a bite out of his sandwich. Before he spoke he chewed and swallowed his sandwich leaning closer into the table. "You'll be training with some of the coolest superheroes in the galaxy in just under 5 hours and-"

"SHHH!" all of us said in unison, trying our best to silence Ned, reminding him that we were all supposed to be incognito at that moment in time.

I opened my mouth to speak but then something else caught my eye, or rather someone else.

"Pete, look over there, and don't make it obvious," I whispered, my eyes pointing towards the table a few tables away from where we all sat, a table that was on the outskirts of the cafeteria.

"W-where am I looking?" Peter turned around, making it all look very extremely obvious as he tried to see where I was looking. I rolled my eyes and spoke again.

"Over there, a few tables to your left, near the doors," I added, and Pete seemed to get the location straight away.

"What about her?" He asked, seeming a little suspicious.

"Rebecca Green, the new girl, she's in my science class, Mrs Schwarts put her next to me," I sighed, trying to make my voice quiet yet still audible to at least Peter. I looked back over Peter's shoulder, looking in her direction as she sat alone, a large book in her hand as she munched on her sandwich, her dark hair tucked behind her ear so I could see more of her face now.

"There's something familiar about her, but I can't quite figure it out..." I added, it wasn't entirely wrong, there was something about her that was familiar to me that I couldn't quite figure out what it was. This meant I was fascinated by her, and I hadn't realised I was staring til her green eyes met mine and I shifted my eyes uneasily. Crap, now she thought I was a weirdo. Great.

Then, without even thinking about it or conferring with my friends, I was stood up and my converse were moving towards where she was at alone. Once I reached her, I stopped, looking at her and trying to seem friendly.

"Rebecca, erm... would you like to come to sit with us?" I spoke, gesturing towards where my friends were sat behind us. They must've been looking friendly themselves because Rebecca put down her book, sliding her emerald green bookmark into the pages, and her dark lips curling up into a sincere smile as she brushed her raven hair from out of her face.

"Erm... if that's alright?" She replied, slowly putting her book into her rucksack. I nodded, smiling. She got up and we walked, our steps in time with one another, towards the table where my friends were sat eating their lunch still, giving me some confused looks but all the same not mentioning anything to Rebecca.

As we sat down, I noticed that Rebecca had a bracelet that snaked around her thin wrist. After focusing a bit more and having a bit of a closer look (without seeming weird or anything) I could see that the pendant that the bracelet featured some sort of symbol or rune, very similar to an arrow, but without the wooden stick that leads off it.

"Oh, and by the way, it's Becky," Rebecca corrected, smiling brightly despite her dark and pale exterior, catching my eyes away from her bracelet and reaching to cover up the bracelet from my view.

I smiled back and nodded once more.

Maybe I will be making some new friends this year...
