Liberty's P.O.V

They must be joking. And I don't think I was the only one who believed that.

"Okay, funny, lovely joke, now what did you actually want to tell us?" Hunter almost laughed, the group of us still stood there waiting a reply to Hunters question. Surely this couldn't be it, surely they couldn't just give it all up just like that.

That's when I looked over at dad, who was still stood by Fury, his face completely serious. All of their faces were completely serious. They weren't kidding us.

"Wait, what! You can't!" Hunter then almost shouted, his adoptive mother Natasha replying with a calm voice but the same serious expression as my father.

"Hunter, we can, and we are," Her eyes softened slightly, and this was incredibly rare coming from the deadly Black Widow. Nat knew this hurt him, but it was a necessary evil. She knew we needed the push.

"So..." The awkward silence ensued, it was awful so I broke it, trying to figure out what to say next. "What-what comes next?"

I was trying to lead the team, stepping in where the others couldn't, I mean I was technically the oldest, I felt I needed to use that to equal responsibility.

"We alter your training schedules, improvement is vital if we want to present you to the press as our new Avengers, Earths mightiest heroes." Director Fury spoke up, making a note on a small mobile device that he had pulled out of the pocket of his trench coat. He then looked up from where he was typing on his device to make eye contact with me "Not that you need to improve a great deal," he said.

We stood in silence that I couldn't bear to break then, it was difficult to find anything to say, it was all a lot to take in.

But I knew we were ready.

This is what they had been slowly and surely preparing us for since they introduced us to each other as their children almost two whole years ago.

They knew we were ready.

"Okay," Penny said eventually, looking over to me as if reading my mind and all the thoughts that had just gone whirring around my head.

I looked back over to her, our eyes meeting as we smiled slightly.

"Let's start," I began, not being able to even foretell what we might come across sooner than we think. "the Earth is counting on us,"

. . .

In the weeks that followed, we were put through more intense training, more tests to see our strength, problem-solving and of course team chemistry. Fury said that the measure of these could be the difference between winning and losing a battle that could destroy the world that we know so well. And, of course, we did pass all of these tests, and I had full faith that we would. I know my team, I know how good they are at their jobs, why would I not have complete and utter faith in them?

After passing each of the tests successfully, Fury led us through to a large room, the place that we had always called our living room at the facility, decked out with sofas and chairs for us to rest after battles or just to spend time as a team out of the public eye. But whilst we had been tried, some upgrades had been made to the room, by Uncle Tony no doubt. Where there were old and slightly uncomfortable sofas there were brand new sofas, tables and some desks that each seemed to be tailored to each of our abilities and purposes in the team.

On the of the largest walls of the room had been replaced with display cabinets that held what looked to be brand new suits, one for each of us.

"What is this?!" Oliver asked, his smile beaming looking towards the original Avengers stood just to the side of where the new suits were hung.

"These," Uncle Tony started to reply, gesturing to the suits, "are your new and improved suits for you to wear out on the field,"

"We worked together to put them together, taking into account your abilities and how you react in battle due to the results from the tests that Fury ran with you," Dr Banner stepped forward to pitch in.

"They're so cool!" Astrid almost jumped at the chance to rush towards the suit which had her name on.

She wasn't right, they were cool, they seriously were, and I could tell that the rest of the team enjoyed them too, they even made Ned a sort of suit for him to wear whilst he uses the control panel which made his eyes light up with happiness and excitement.

"Now that you have your suits, its time to get you ready for being officially in the public eye, presenting the new Avengers to the press," Fury began, "You won't be presented with your real names, just the aliases that you've been using for so long,"

I felt a breath I didn't even know I was holding release from my chest, I was hoping that Fury would say that, I really didn't want to be completely revealed to the public. It was stupid, I knew it was, but privacy was invaluable in this industry, and high school is hard enough.

"When? When are we telling the press?" Max questioned as he inspected his suit.

It was then that Director Fury looked me dead in the eye, seriousness filling every inch of his expression and body language.

"Tomorrow morning, first thing," Fury dropped the metaphorical bomb right on our heads.

"WHAT?!" we said in unison, shock filling the room from our perspectives.

I looked towards my dad who stepped forward to say something, and I thought at first he would object to Fury's idea, but then I realised that I was very wrong.

He sighed and then began to speak.

"The world must know,"
