Chapter 16

Rosa's POV

After the quick run in with Autum, things got back to normal. My brother seemed pretty comfortable with her, which was suprising considering the situation. But I didn't bother to ask him why, it didn't really matter at this point in time.

After Autum left, my brother and I closed up the diner and swept up the floors, we went up-stairs to get ready for bed. The back staircase made the most awful noise, creaking and groaning every-time you placed your foot down, in fact, the whole upstairs of the house was in disrepair. Uncle spent all his time working on new recipes in the kitchen or polishing the diner's cracked tiled floor, and rarely had anytime to even consider fixing out living quarters.

Xavier and my bedroom was actually the old living room, with a couple pieces of furniture her had found on the side of the road shoved into the corner. Iron rod beds and mismatched bedside tables with dusty lamps and a couple of discount shampoo's in the bath room. It wasn't that he wasn't a good man, he was just busy, and could never turn down a good bargain.

"I call first for the bathroom!" Xavier yelled, while sprinting towards the bathroom door. I rolled my eyes and sat down on the edge of the bed and picking up a book I had gotton from the library. It was and old copy of 'Little Women' a book I had read countless times before and loved dearly. Uncle had found the copy for me at a garage sale, I had left my at home.

Xavier's POV

I stepped out of the shower and grabbed a towel to throw around my waist before steping towards the wooden counter top, which my clothing was laying on. I threw on the flannel pajama bottoms, ran a quick comb through my sopping wet hair before I turned towards the mirror. My eyes were lined with dark circles and my eyebrows furrowed across my forhead, not to mention my wet hair which stuck up in all directions.

I was a mess.

I pulled my fingers through my red hair and lean backwards into the wall behind me. No matter how hard I tried I couldn'r stop worrying about us, about  him. And what that Alpha would do when he found us. We might be stronger than most humans but we were no match for an alpha wolf, especially one on teetering on the edge of insanity. Grandma wouldn't be there to protect us this time.

There was not plan after this one, and even our quick escape had been hastily planned. What happened if I found my mate, what if Rosa found hers?

I banged my head against the wall in frustration. I should just give up. Who cares about some alpha, who cares about our powers? Can't we just give up? I heard a loud cracking noise and I turned to see the mirror smashed into a hundread peices, as if smashed by some invisable fist. I had lost constoll and let my powers get away from me. Shame filled eery last bit of my heart. What if that had happened in public?

I heard a faint knock on the door and a small peice of paper slid through the crack between door and wall. I picked it up, and noticed Rosa's messy hand writing.

'Are you okay? You've been in there awful long...'

I chuckled to myself. That's why I had to keep going. For her.
