In Y/n's POV

"I was... what?" I asked, my (e/c) eyes shrinking in size in incredulity. "No, you're joking... This is like some late April Fools Joke, right Keith?" I looked at the raven haired man for some reassurance; his face was still the same as it was when I walked into the room.

"(Y/n)... I never thought to tell you because you were so young, and I guess I was being selfish too... I just wanted a family, even if it was just you and me— we were still family. I'm sorry, (Y/n)." said Keith, his voice low and raspy.

"Keith here isn't your biological brother, nor am I your biological mother. Keith's deceased father isn't your biological father either... Apparently, you were just found by the two boys one day. Everything we knew about your biological parents, is in that box Keith gave you." Krolia stated, her arms crossed.

"This doesn't mean we're not still family though... adopted family, is still family. Just know we love you, okay sis?" said Keith, crouching down a few inches so he could look me in the eye before hugging me softly. "I love you, so much, you little weirdo," a few tears and coughs were released from both of the parties participating in the hug.

"I... I love you too, Keith." I replied to my brother as I returned the warm gesture; arms wrapped around one another. My grip tightened on Keith's shoulders as my tears rolled down my cheeks, staining them.

"I'm sorry for raining on your sentimental bonding moment here, but Keith, we have a mission to attend to; Kolivan is still outside, waiting." said Krolia, pointing to the exit of the castle. "It was nice meeting you, (Y/n)."

"Right; bye dork. And remember: you'll always be a Kogane, no matter what." said Keith, lightly punching my arm in a playful matter as he wiped the rest of his tears away.

"B-bye..." I said, waving my hand lightly, the box being gripped with my free one.

Leaving the living area, I rushed to my own room and sat on the floor, setting the box right in front of me.

As I opened the box, I found an envelope on top, my name written in beautiful cursive on it.

Dear (Y/n),

It's really hard for us to do this... but we don't want you to die... Please remember that your mother and father will always love you no matter what. Oh, you have your father's hair and my eyes... If you ever find this letter, we have either died or the Koganes have given it to you to remember us... or maybe even both. Just remember to have a happy life full of good memories, my sweet angel.

Lots of love, Mom and Dad

... they gave me up because of the war.

Setting the letter and certificste aside, there were several polaroids with my parents in them.

One was with me and my parents just smiling when I was born; man I was an ugly baby.

Another one was with me, around the age of 1 or so, eating a plate full of food goo.

The last one in that pile was of me, not with my parents, but with Keith and his dad cradling me in Keith's arms with the caption, "A new family member just arrived lmfao TAKEN APRIL 20"
