"What?!"

Words escaped my brain as I stood there flabbergasted. I look at Kaito and he looks just as confused as I am. The guards lift themselves up when the door opens and turn to see a woman with brown-auburn hair like mine, white hairs tainting the roots. I freeze up at the sight of her; confident, beautiful, holding herself so courageous.

"Mom?" I ask hesitantly and hopeful, wishing it to be her. A bright smile forms on her face as she looks at me and tears form in her eyes. I run up to her and hug her tightly, burying my face into the nook of her neck.

"Oh sweetheart, I've missed you so much." She says sweetly into my ear like sugar. I hug her tighter, not ever wanting to let go as I take in the fact that I found my birth mother. Kaito pats my shoulder and I release my mom from my death grip of a hug and wipe the tears from my eyes.

"I can't believe we found you. I thought this whole time you hated me and threw me away. But I was wrong, I was tricked. You are here and alive, that's more than I can ask for." I admit at sobs threaten to take over my voice. Kaito noticed the change in my voice and held my hand for reassurance.

"Come come, both of you." She insisted and lead us into the small cottage she occupied. The guards stayed on the outside of the door while it closed behind us. The smell of tea and jasmine fills my nose and relaxes my entire body. We follow her into a small kitchen while she took the teapot on the stove off the burner and poured three glasses of jasmine tea for us all.

"How did you find this place? How did you get here?" She asked as we sat down at the table with our glasses of tea. Kaito sat on my right while my mother sat across from me and I sipped my tea the moment I was comfortable.

"We went to the dragon kingdom since we found leads that sent us up there to investigate. They told us relatively where you were so Kaito here scouted the place out and found the cottage. He then went back for me and brought me here to meet you." I explain as she nods while sipping her tea.

"That explains why the guards saw dead monsters in the distance from the house. And I'm sure you have questions, so go ahead." She guessed and assuming correctly, I started to ask.

"Why did you leave me with them? What was the trouble of keeping me with you?" I asked curiously, the thought of being royal still circling in my mind.

"It was a dark time for us, our kingdom was on the verge of collapse. We had to go to great lengths to keep it as it is now. We didn't want you to get taken from us so we sent you to our allies at the dragon kingdom when you were just a babe. They lost you and we were devastated. We looked everywhere for you, but Death hid you too well. We thought you were dead." She admitted as her eyes avoid making contact with mine.

I grab her hand and hold it in mine, looking at her sincerely. "Mom, I understand trust me. I got out of Death's grasp because of Kaito here." I declare and look over to him with a smile. "He protected me and helped me get here. I wouldn't have been able to do it without him." I admit and blush looking into Kaito's eyes before looking away and back to her.

"I'm thankful you have taken care of her, I really am." She replies honestly and smiles patting Kaito's hand before turning her attention to me again when I ask her another question.

"What did the guards mean by 'your highness'?" I ask trying to clear the confusion in my head from earlier. She looks at me for a moment and looks at the cup of tea.

"Well, you're a princess Mavis. It is Mavis right?" I nod and she continues, "Alright, well your father is the Archangel Gabriel. I am merely a human who bore his child, in the result, we had you. He runs the Kingdom of the Angels as their King, so you are the rightful heir to the throne. I'll send a message to your father that you're still alive and well so you can meet him." She says getting up from the table before heading to the front door to talk to the guards and I get a smirk from Kaito.

"Farfetched my ass, were on both sides of the spectrum. Demon King and Angel Princess, what are the chances of that." He announces before pouring his tea into my cup. "You can have mine," He offers before getting up and looking out the window. I look at the cup in front of me and take a sip. The warm soothing liquid flowing down my throat, warming my body.

"Princess, this is new. Is that the reason why Death kept me all those years? Leading me from my full potential as some people have told me. Keeping me away from the light and turning me dark to do his bidding. Prowling the plains in search of me, to go back to him, to go back to the old ways that we had. What about me is worth stealing or keeping me from? What about Kaito? Demon King, aren't we supposed to be enemies now? We both know that's not gonna happen. My parents, I've found them, but am I ready to be a princess? I don't have....wings....wait...I had wings..." I think to myself before a memory flashes before me.

'The anger, the frustration that came over me earlier in the forest comes back again. I look at him with the silver disks in my eyes with anger plastered on my face. He smirks and steps back as anger falls over me and I scream in his face and growl. "Let...me...GO!" I yell at him clenching my fists. He stands back and watches with a devilish grin on his face. "Let it out Mavis. Let the dark side of you take control. I wanna see what you're made of." He says smirking over at me with his arms crossed. I feel my blood boil under my skin, my body and soul begging me for it to release it. Then a spark from inside me, like a match being lit, a fume expanding, a fire raging to life. I look at him and snarl as the chair cracks from beneath me, a strength from within me emerges and I break the shackles holding me down and I burst from the chair and a pain strikes my back as I turn my head and lumps form from my shoulder blades as my shirt gets tighter and tighter every second.

Then dark grey angelic wings sprout in my back and I fall to my knees bending forward to the ground as the pain shoots through my whole body starting from my back. He stands uncrosses his arms in amazement walking over to me grabbing one of my wings extending it then inspecting it. Tiny droplets of blood cover them from coming out of my back breaking the skin. "Marvelous...absolutely stunning." He says observing every detail. I heave bending over, facing the ground as the pain slowly dwindles to an annoying sting in my back. "Move them." He demands and I move my shoulder blades trying to make them move. The wings move ever so slightly, extending outwards. He grins and walks to stand in front of me and squats down to my level and picks up my chin. "Now that's one hell of a secret power." He says letting go of my chin and stands back up again. "That's enough for one day, guards!" He calls out and two guards come into the room and pick me up under my arms and carry me back to my cell chaining me back up on the wall like a wounded bird.'

I regain my senses and turn to see Kaito standing beside me looking at me with his head tilted curiously.

"Flashback?" He asks and I nod in response as he grabs my hand and kisses the top of it before looking up at me from my hand.

"Well, now you're my princess...Your Majesty,"
