I sat outside Alex's hospital room once I left. I couldn't bear to leave him here. I wish I could take back what happened, and I'm sure he hates me even more now. I leaned my head against the wall, staring at the ceiling. I'm such a mess up. I ruin everything.
Eventually I get up, knocking on the door. A groan responds, and I crack open the door so I can see. Alex was laying on his side, eyes squeezed closed in pain.
"Hey, are you okay?"
I heard a grunt in response. I opened the door more, walking into his room. "Can I get you help? What's happening?"
"Side..." He muttered. I nodded, slowly walking to the bed. I gently took his hand.
"Hey..can I help?" He opened his eyes a bit, looking up at me.
"I love you, John."
"I love you, too, Alexander. But why..?"
"I love you. I'm sorry."
"Alexander, what are you talking about?"
"I love you, John." He whispered.
"I love you, too, Alexander." I gripped his hand a bit tighter, leaning down to give him a kiss. I pulled away after a few seconds, watching as a faint smile appeared on his face. His eyes drifted shut, and his hand went limp.
He flatlined.
Again.
