Link watched Zelda as she headed to her horse He admired her happiness in the defeat of Ganon's final, pure evil form. Now abolished, it left Link, Zelda, and all of the other Hylians at peace in the vast kingdom pf Hyrule. Link looked ahead once more. He could barely see the blue roofs of the newly built houses and shops at castle town, which no longer sat in ruin. Link didn't smile. He new it was great and everything to have peace once again in Hyrule, with few monsters remaining and peace draped over every soul, but he felt that something was missing. That he needed another purpose. Something to live for now that his Princess was safe.
"Link? You look dazed....are you well?" Zelda's soft voice sounded next to him.
Link turned his head toward her and nodded, gazing at her emerald green eyes. She grinned, spun on her heal and turned around to mount her horse. Link soon followed after one last glance at Hyrule Castle and then followed, walking next to Zelda as equals.
When Link mounted his horse, he noticed Zelda having trouble getting up the stubborn White Stallion. The steed neighed and reared up as the frustrated princess struggled to mount. After moments of failure, the horse eventually threw Zelda across the grass.
Link burst out laughing. The scene didn't seem the same to Zelda, for she grunted and cursed inder her breath with a red face, only causing Link to laugh harder. Suddenly, in his delirium of snorts and breaths, a force from his side knocked him off his horse. Face-Planting into the ground like the idiot he felt he was, he ended his laughter and spat out dirt from his mouth as he lifted his face off the lush green grass. His head whipped around to face Zelda, who was smiling with mischief, and sighed.
She was gorgeous. Her face aligned almost perfectly on each side, her thick, blond hair trailing down to her lower back. She waited, seeming as if she was expecting something.
"Well? Are we going to go?" She asked, cheerfully.
"Of course! Why wouldn't we go? I'd feel so lonely just standing up here without anyone to laugh at," Link replied.
Zelda smiled and took Link's hand to help him off the ground. Wait...shouldn't it be the other way around? Link thought. When he was up, he realized the he was standing a little too close to the princess' face. Link felt heat rise to his face and he stepped back. Apparently, Zelda thought the same and her cheeks turned pink.
Link held his hand up and scratched the back of his neck, looking down, unsure of how to end the silence.
"W-well, I guess we sh-should get going," Link stammered, "after all, the trip to Zora's Domain is going to last a few days, right?"
"Y-yeah....sure" Zelda replied, her face still pink.
Instead of teasing Zelda for her "impact" on horses, Link helped her up the steed, which made grunts and angry, threatening sounds as he double-checked if everything was secure.
As if matters could get any worse with the horse, the White Stallion started shaking it's head and wriggling. Zelda squeeled, grabbing Link's full attention, as the horse flung the girl off his back.
Zelda launched forward at an awkward position towards Link, knocking him aback and tumbling into the field of Silent Princesses halfway downhill. Zelda tried to stop rolling but every time she could get a grip on herself and try to get up, Link's shifting weight would overwhelm her and bring her down with him. The ground eventually evened out as the two rolled one on top of the other down.
Panting, they came to a stop on the even patch of flowers, Zelda on her back after the impact of the fall. Link was still sore from holding onto the Princess on the way down as a playful gesture, but clearly she didn't appreciate it. The two the realized their position: Zelda helplessly on the ground who was locked eyes with a blushing Link looking down at her face, which was perfectly aligned with his. His hands were supporting his weight, but they were struggling to stay as they were right next to each side of Zelda's face. Link's legs were practically tangled with Zelda's, leaving him clueless of what to do.
I really messed up this time, Link thought to himself.
He just lay there, staring into Zelda's perfect green eyes as they locked with his. Zelda then gently grabbed Link's trembling wrists, which made his elbows almost fail to hold himself up, almost collapsing on top of the princess. Link's heart rate escalated and pounded in his ears. Thinking Zelda could hear him, Link sat up, still on top of Zelda's legs. She still lay on the ground, astonished by Link.
Gosh, Link thought, Everyone must be crazy for her. I must be lucky...
Zelda sat upright and shifted away from Link, who was probably tomato-red by now. She looked back and gave a timid smile and giggled. She stood up and looked around, as if she was doing something suspicious.
"Uh...sorry about that," Link apologized, "I-I, uh, well....um..."
Link internally screamed at himself for not being able to speak to a girl. He watched in dismay as Zelda turned and walked away toward the horses to wait for Link to bring himself together and obviously ignoring the apology. He knew he was busted. It was his fault that he held onto Zelda down the hill.
Link stood up and grinned anyway. He, for sone reason, felt warm at the thought of being best friends with Zelda and the thought of how she held his hands when the two tangled up on top of each other. Link held onto the feeling as he trekked up the Silent Princess field. About halfway up, though, Link was alarmed by a shriek.
Immediately, Link ran up to see the matter. He saw the matter alright. Zelda had been grabbed by the wrist by a skinny figure dressed in red and black. Link glared at it. A Yiga, Link thought. He ran toward the struggling princess in distress and wielded the Master Sword, a cherished weapon he earned from Korok Forest.
Zelda's hand looked as if it was held too tightly. Just then, a Yiga Blademaster appeared out of nowhere and picked the girl up by the neck off the ground. Link was still trying to catch up when he heard Zelda choke. Worry and a cold sweat crept across his face as he was reaching less than a few meters closer to the enemies.
Two heads shot towards Link, their glares burning into him. Within seconds, Link had run, scooted between the two Yiga and spun his blade around him, hearing it sing through the air, a ring like a bell. Barely any time had passed when three bodies collapsed onto the ground. Link looked at the skinny Yiga and plunshed the Master Sword down into the enemy's leg, mercilessly, and let it teleport away.
The sun began to set as Link whipped his head around in dismay when the Blademaster was nowhere to be found. The only other form of life was one of the horses, the white one gone, and Zelda's unconscious body. Worry filled Link's mind as a burst of thoughts came to him. He struggled to push them away as he rushed and bent down to see Zelda's face. Her breathing was uneven. Her neck was red and a mark shown on her forehead. Link frowned. All of this can easily happed so quickly and unexpectedly.
He sighed and dug his arms under her body as Epona slowly trotted over for the unplanned ride to Link's home. Why did I act so stupid, Link angrily thought to himself, She would've been safe if it weren't for me.

In Link's small cottage, Zelda sat in his bed, staring at the wall on the opposite side. Her breathing was better, but she still looked shaken by the attack. Link continued to observe her face. Zelda closed her eyes, probably thinking of something that Link couldn't see through. Hesitantly and gingerly, he stepped forth, examining and gazing at every one of Zelda's features. Link smiled sadly, wondering what she thought of him. Then Zelda's eyes opened slowly, and to be greeted by the blue of Link's eyes. She was taken aback, her heart beating so hard that Link could hear it.
"It's okay, Zelda. Just me," Link told her, and accidentally whispered, "Gosh, you're so pretty"
Obviously, due to the princess's sudden wide expression, that Link had made her uncomfortable. Link's face felt like a furnace as he muttered a swear under his breath.
"Er...s-sorry! I..uh-didn't mean to say that! I take it back. I take it all back! I'm sorry! I mean, you are super pretty...uh...umm..." Link rambled and mumbled, but was silenced by a peck in the cheek from Zelda.
        "Uhhh...." Link swallowed, "Umm, th-thanks?"
Still blushing, he heard Zelda smile and giggle. This was a happy moment, Link thought. He grinned as his face soon returned to normal and his hand was put down from scratching his neck.
Zelda's face then turned more serious-a sad serious. She turned and scooted off the bed. Unable to stand well on the dusty floor, her knees gave way. Link's arms held out to catch Zelda, but she stood her own ground.
"I was thinking," she began, "About who you were then and who you are now."
She paused, then continued, "You are so different from the Link I knew of the past yet the exact same," she said as she looked down, "Now, you seem to be th-the same in looks and personality, but...but you certainly speak more now."
Zelda smiled—her perfect smile—and looked up at Link, who was slightly taller.
Link grinned and looked down. His gazed moved his head back up and he started, "I guess some things don't stay the same forever. I remember, one hundred years ago, when we would travel everywhere—the two of us—but...but I wouldn't say a thing. It may have been the new peace that lays around us, or now that I don't feel as nervous around you," he paused realizing what he had said. His face got warm as he added quickly, "Not...Not that you're s-scary or...anything...but, umm, I...uh..." Link paused again. He sighed and looked down, his eyes still widened in embarrassment, and then strongly said, "I guess I should say that I feel more comfortable around you and more confident. I feel that I can express myself and speak freely because you make me feel happy."
Zelda looked touched. She walked towards Link and embraced him in her arms. A warm and fizzy feeling shot through Link, making him grin. He lifted his arms to embrace Zelda back, his head leaning against hers as it was resting on his shoulder.
Link felt disappointed as Zelda pulled away from the hug and looked down.
She sighed before saying, "I'm glad you're happy. You know, Link...this is what I've been wanting to see from you. A pure, unrestrained emotion appearing on your face and you speaking freely as you please. When I first laid eyes on you, I knew you'd been longing to be happy."
Link closed his eyes. He'd wanted to know that Zelda was pleased, for Link wanted to tell her his true feeling for her. Link opened his ocean-blue eyes and gazed into Zelda's glossy emerald eyes in the candlelight as the twilight out the window appeared.
Link gently lifted Zelda's chin with one hand while using the other to softly brush some loose strands of hair behind her ear. Her golden locks brushing Link's hand as it slid down to her waist.
"Zelda..." Link whispered, "I've actually been holding back something I've wanted to say...it, uhh...it..." he paused in embarrassing realization of his stupidity and speech.
Link continued, "I just...j-just thought about finding a time for so long...I-I...umm," he held Zelda's waist tighter for support, making her blush.
"Link? Umm...why are you..."
She couldn't finish. Link had given up using his stuttery words so he leaned forth and kissed Zelda's cheek, her warm skin against his lips.
By now, both were flaming red from ear to ear. To Link's surprise, Zelda laughed.
"So," she started between giggles, making Link blush harder, "What you're truing to say is...you like me?"
Link pressed his lips together and nodded. Zelda's cheeks flared a deep red and then her head shot towards Link's.
His eyes were wide at the compassionate gesture. He felt, by now, that his face had burned off—disintegrated. He stepped back, still shocked at the feeling of their lips pressing together. Zelda's mouth was soft and warm though, comforting Link. He closed his eyes and savored the feeling, ignoring the constant knocking on his door, knowing that he was getting in trouble soon.
