Chapter Five

Donavan

"Okay, what's the most embarrassing thing you've done in high school?" Justice asked. They were tucked away in his living room with the radio playing soft jazz. Since neither of them were sleepy-nor did they want to leave the others company-they decided to make a game out of their deal. Twenty One Questions. It was a bit childish but who can ever go wrong with Twenty One Questions.

"Let's see. Freshman year I had this huge crush on this girl from the dance team, and my friends dared me to ask her out. Mind you I was a total dork, freshman year. So I thought it'd be brilliant to ask her out in front of the entire dance squad and JV basketball team."

"Me being the clever guy I was, thought it would add some points to the score if I did a lil dance for her. Except, this one move caused me to fall into the dance instructor and in the midst of me getting up I had copped a feel of her breast and had a huge boner.

"For the rest of the school year and throughout half of my sophomore year everyone teased me for it." He rambled off and couldn't help but chuckle as she began to laugh uncontrollably.

"So you had a thing for older women I see." She teased still giggling from her laughter.

"Alright then miss perfect. What was the most embarrassing thing you ever did in high school?" He challenged. One thing was for sure, he felt comfortable around her. She rolled her eyes at his question as she sat and thought about it. He took that moment to study her body for the third time that day. God she was beautiful.

"Okay I was practicing with the cheerleaders; we were going over this one routine. Me being as light as I was, was a flyer. Well in the middle of the routine the base was preparing to throw me in the air and right when they were about to toss me, I farted and everything went wrong." It was Donavan's turn to burst into laughter.

"Oh hush up. Next question." She waited until his laughter died down before she asked the next question. "Why the name Spade?"

"Honestly I have no clue. I guess it was one of those names that just stick with you as a kid. My father used to call me that and most of my friends called me that, so it just stuck." He answered honestly. "Thirsty?" He asked standing from the couch.

"Sure, you have any soda?" She asked following behind him.

"I have Sprite, Lemonade, Ginger Ale, and Pepsi. Can and bottle." He listed as he looked through his fridge.

"I'll take a Lemonade." He pulled two Lemonade's from the fridge and handed her one before removing eggs, bacon, and cheese. "What's that for?"

"I don't know about you, but a nigga hungry right now, and I'm in the mood for my breakfast mix." He moved to various cabinets pulling out plates, bowls, pots and pans.

"Breakfast mix?"

"Bacon, eggs and cheese all mixed in with grits." She frowned in disgust.

"I'm all for breakfast, but to mix it? What are you a garbage disposal?"

"Don't knock it 'til you try it. Trust you'll love it." He said as he began busying himself with preparing the late night meal.

"Anyway, can we get serious for a minute?" she asked a bit hesitantly as she sipped her lemonade.

"Sure." He turned the oven on to get it heated before placing the bacon inside.

"Where's Donavan's mother?" Her question brought back painful memories of that sorrowful night. Simply because of the hurtful words that was exchanged between the two.
