Chapter Ten

Donavan

Donavan watched as her face clouded over and it seemed like a mask was placed over her beautiful features instantly. He was curious as to who would be calling for her to change so suddenly. Drawing his eyes away from her he stood up from the floor and began straightening up the mess they had made from the tickle fight.

"Oh sweetie you can leave that I'll get it later." Miss Tabitha said coming fully into the living room and taking her previous seat.

"Non-sense Miss T. We got this!" He dismissed. "Ain't that right Sy? Never leave a woman to do too much work." He gave his son a wink which caused Donavan Jr. to laugh a bit.

"Yeah, Grandma Tabby, we got this. You won't have to lift a finger." He agreed, stacking the magazines back into a neat pile. The sound of Donavan's phone ringing loudly in his pocket pulled the duo from their cleaning daze.

He fished it out of his pocket and saw it was the office calling. He knew it could only be an emergency if they were calling when he was off for the day.

"Sorry I have to take this. It's work." He stepped out of the living room and into the hall and answered.

"Boss man, we need you down here ASAP. We just received a huge tip that could potentially lead up to closing the Rocky Cartel case." One of his workers, Mitch, announced sounding a bit too eager.

"Do they know who it's from?" He asked making his way back to the living room to break the news. Once there he began gathering his keys and other items that seemed to have made its way around the room.

"Naw, just an anonymous tip, my guess it's someone from the inside that finally decided to turn on their own. Just get down here and I'll fill you in on everything." Mitch answered and finally disconnected the call.

"Daddy, are you leaving again?" His son asked with big sad eyes. It always killed him to look into his son's eyes and tell him he'd have to go. Donavan scooped his son up and hugged him tight.

"Yeah buddy, Dad has to go to work. It's an emergency." He answered. "Remember that really big important case I was telling you about?" He questioned and he couldn't miss the excitement that was now displayed all over his face as Donavan Jr. nodded his head.

"It's about that case. We just got some really important news and I have to go and check it out. If all goes well, we might be able to catch the bad guy."

Donavan Jr.'s eyes widened in astonishment at the news and his small face broke out into a huge grin. "Really! That's awesome!" He said happily. He squirmed out of his father's grip and began pulling him towards the door. "You have to get going so you can catch the bad guy."

Donavan's heart swelled in his chest at his son's eagerness. Any other time he announced he had to go in to work for an emergency D.J would cling to him like his life depended on it. He smiled down at his son and gave him a tight hug before kissing the top of his head.

"I'll be back in time to tuck you in okay?" He said and his son nodded his head and said his final good byes.

"I'll see you later Miss T." Donavan called from the hall.

"You be careful sweetie, oh and please ask Little Rocket if she's staying for dinner." She said and gave him a soft kiss on the cheek.

"Will do." He double checked his pockets to make sure he had everything before proceeding to the door. Just as he got close he could hear Justice outside yelling into the phone and the muffled voices from the other end.
