Rival's for life

Eventually you gradually fell asleep around 2 AM since you had to wake up at 6 AM to get ready for school. Despite what happened yesterday you were still just like any other teenager/young adult, which was going to high school and getting that diploma. As soon as you started dreaming of being in a cafe drinking your favorite beverage with a book and your earbuds playing your favorite song... The alarm goes off, waking you up from such a short imagination that disappeared like a cloud. Grumbling as you got out of bed,  turning on the lights as you slowly began rubbing your eyes while walking towards your mirror upon the white wooden wardrobe in the room.

Placing a small patch on the palm of your hand while rubbing the substance towards the ends of your hair tips to keep it from being tangled. You began to brush your hair as it shines and glisten's from the generous amount of coconut oil that helps straighten it out evenly. 3 minutes pass by once you stopped brushing your hair to make it into a ponytail, then rummaging through the wardrobe you took out a pair of clothes that were satisfying towards your preferred style. Holding the clothes with one hand you went to change in the bathroom and continued doing your regular routine like usual. Brushing your teeth, using the bathroom, spraying perfume, grabbing your phone, putting on your shoes, wearing your earbuds, and getting your backpack.

Nothing real ever changes when it's just another day to go to school, as you head out of the house. Locking the door with your key, you slowly turn around to head towards the bus stop. The time is 6:25 AM a bit early since the bus arrives around 6:35 or 6:40 depending the weather and mood the bus driver is in. You didn't like the idea of being late or running for your dear life to catch the bus leaving you behind. So it was best in your head to arrive early then become late. Waiting patiently on a Tuesday morning, someone started to call your name from behind.

Who could it be? Surely you are mishearing since the music is too loud, touching the earbud silence fell. Listening sharply while looking around to see the surroundings, there was no one, but then a hand touched your shoulder. Turning around, there stands a girl with dark brown hair, wearing a mint colored cotton silk dress with black wedged heels. Her name was Emily, the daughter of mother's childhood friend, the one who was a constant reminder of how "imperfect" you were towards mother and father. Though the two of you were the same age, height, and near resemblance from afar... did not mean that either one of you had the same interests or personality.

Emily had it all in her life; popularity, family status, beauty, intelligence, writing skills, advanced speaking skills, could cook and bake, clean beautifully, grace, and a pear shaped body. Something that you loathed whenever the two of you were in the same location, always being overshadowed by her as Emily flaunted or boasted to everyone around her. It didn't matter if you spoke/studied three different languages in your 3 years of high school, being fluent in one while having an intermediate level in the rest. It didn't matter if you sacrificed so much on your family to be let down in the end, to them what mattered is the family image being above and beyond like the others who are either enemies or foes in the social circle. That's why you and Emily were compared by the amount of achievements, awards, skills, peers, grades, and looks that you uphold in your possession.

Emily was raised in the same toxic lifestyle as you, but the difference was that Emily's parent's adored her for who she was. Allowed to go walking with her friends, ALLOWED to have/make friends but not you. They let Emily go out with her friends even if it's a sleepover or party, while you had to remain isolated in your room reading books and practicing writing beautifully. Emily can decide her career as long as the pay is good and showing passion into her work, you couldn't... You were too accept the type of career your family wanted you to have whether passion or necessity grew on you.

As you stared at Emily, with such a cold gaze hiding your right fisted hand behind your back you gave a fake smile.

Y/n: How are you Emily? What do you want from me this time? *Grinding your teeth as you quietly started to turn away from her.*

Emily: Oh y/n! Don't look at me with those scary eyes, I just wanted to talk with you since I was sleeping over with Rose. What's the harm in that? After all... *She leans close to you whispering as other kids start to arrive.* It's not like you can avoid me easily with how are parent's like to know every detail about us. Sadly you and me, have no choice but to follow orders from our parent's even if means having to play along with each other. *She says clasping both her hands speaking normally again* My parents asked me to tell you if your family could come to my birthday party next week.

Y/n:...I'll tell them when they come back after their trip, or you could simply message them yourself since technically your parent's have their numbers. Other then the invitation you are about to give me there's more than one way to get in touch with them, I'm sure you know that much.

Emily: My, my, it's no wonder why your known as the manager of the family tree! *Takes out the invitation from her backpack* So much pressure on you like the gossips claim, I would feel sympathy for you but why would I? We are rivals in more then one way. Neither of us have boyfriends despite our looks and popularity status in school, but there's also big talk that you are such a fake person that people have to avoid you whenever you walk the hallways. Only one of us has a positive reputation and clean image.

Y/n: *Yanks the invitation sliding it inside your backpack while whispering* Like your not a puppet on a string, being forced to also make connections to strengthen your family name. *Speaking in normal voice* In the end rumors and gossips are just talk for snitches and fakes since phones aren't enough to entertain people. There's also that one rumor about your friend Veronica being pregnant by one of the football players! You gonna believe all that.

Emily: Clearly there's a difference since she can get evidence. You however are a different case since you were in middle school you always had caused problems and been able to miraculously make at least 309 girls cry on a certain Washington field trip. Don't believe me? Ask the girls directly who are friends of mine and my other girlfriends.

*Just as you were about to explain what really happened that day the bus finally seemed to have arrived.*
Emily: Ah the bus is here, I wouldn't want to ruin my perfect record attendance for chatting away with you. See ya later!

*As Emily started to climb the stairs more of the students behind you seem to be snickering or giggling at Emily's response. As you sighed being from the first to the last one in line to get on the bus all you could was reach for your earbuds and start listening to music as the kids had no intention of letting you sit in any of their empty seats. All you could do was find an empty spot next to the emergency door, as frustration would build up inside your heart.*
